back to article Dell CTO says enterprises will have GenAI in production next year – what could go wrong?

Dell thinks it knows what is going to keep CIOs awake at night over the next year, and this includes making generative AI work for their organization, security, and the edge. These issues are perhaps not surprising for those in the tech industry, but Dell's chief technology officer, John Roese, believes they are going to loom …

He seems to have a lot of sensible stuff to say such as working out whether you're going to get anything useful out of it, especially "If you find out after you've deployed, it's a bit late by then,"

But I still read So far, most companies are using AI "casually" as "casualty".

    sounds like

something nobody wants or needs. Probably more detrimental than helpful. It's a shame nobody has a choice.

      Re: sounds like

Oh, I think plenty of people want it. Because it's shiny, and it lets people who don't care be lazy about certain types of work, such as responding to emails.

      Need it, not so much.

Well, yes, but at least he also said things like "nobody should embark on a large AI project, or even a small one, unless they can quantify the returns they are likely to see". Which is fairly sensible, since those returns are likely to be very difficult to determine.

The Flip Side of COIN* .... What you Need to Get Right Every Time

Enterprises will have GenAI in production next year – what could go wrong?

    Really??? You have to ask????

Well, if you listen to some body which knows, and subsequently neither disbelieve nor deny what they would be clearly enough plainly telling you, ..... unless you know how to continually do such future things right, everything is practically certain to go both physically and virtually wrong for you and never ever as either hoped for or meticulously planned for as the result of undertaken actions incited by what ideally would be expected to be widely accepted, agreeable proposals rather than being recognised as a wildcat unilateral mercenary mission in support of renegades and rogues, frauds and charlatans, wannabe Caesars and disgraced, bankrupt of novel proprietary intellectual property leaderships.
