Very good
I enjoy these
By now you've probably all seen the drama at OpenAI unfolding: CEO Sam Altman being fired by the board, attempts to woo him back, and attempts by Microsoft to hire him and his staff, who have threatened to quit. We've summarized the situation here, though it's a fast-moving, evolving story, so anything could happen in the next …
That’s right, the artificial intelligence thing. Yes, one of the reasons I bought all this server equipment was because I wanted to set up stable diffusion down in the basement. But then I got way more interested in Proxmox, virtualization, and ridding myself completely of Microsoft.
(Well, I still have the Windows. Locked safely inside a VM sandbox. Mostly for legacy software, but also to observe Windows and Mac OS being brought to heel — utterly — inside Linux.)
I think I'm with Chris on this one, that Altman and Sutskever might have been infected by a virulent form of Blake Lemoine LaMDA SEntience Disorder (new BLLASSED virus), leading them to overapprehend (and state) the General- and Super-Intelligence aptitudes of their language transformer model tech (lacking a cognitive component) -- resulting in this mental health "cluster-fsck" (quoting K. Quach) brouhaha, and ditching of OpenAI and related GPTs. Something quite contagious about contemporary AI-borne afflictions it seems!
Most scary though (IMHO), as mentioned by Drew and Iain, is educators evaluating students' aptitudes based on how well each one's LLM user account answered their homework and exam questions! Future shmuture?
