"Iran's role in the Israel-Hamas war has been largely "reactive and opportunistic," says Microsoft,"
You may want to correct this nonsense...
Perhaps you meant "cyber war"?
Iran's role in the Israel-Hamas war has been largely "reactive and opportunistic," says Microsoft, in contrast to reports that Tehran's spies plotted cyberattacks against Israel to coincide with the October 7 Hamas terrorist atrocity. Iran's claims about the impact of subsequent computer network breaches were widely inflated, …
Of course not. Despite their openly anti-Isreal rhetoric, Iran doesn't want to be seen as openly complicit in this. They're happy to keep stoking the hatred and have other nutters die for their cause. Isn't (im)plausible denability wonderful?
The idea that the people of Gaza subjected to unlivable conditions with no hope for the future, subjected to regular murder from the sky, should only want to change this because Iran, is so racist.
If someone killed your mum, stole your house, and locked you in a cage, would you need to ask Iran for permission before you fancied trying to escape? Do you think that idea might occur to you, unbidden ?
However you expect the faceless "human animals" should be docile and enjoy their fate until its time to form casus belli for attacking Iran.
The 100 years of attacking Palestine is the reason, the 75 Years of dispossession is the reason. The Zionist State Terrorist group murdering people is the reason, why on earth would Iran who lets be honest, cares about Iranians not Palestinians be involved?
Oh that's right, the ZSTG would quite like the Americans to attack Iran, as they are unable to bomb it without mid-air refueling, and the Iranians have demonstrated sufficient conventional missile capability to outmatch ZSTG according to their most recent exercise https://www.idf.il/en/articles/2023/conclusion-of-the-firm-hand-exercise-the-idf-s-main-general-staff-exercise/
Hamas had been keeping quiet for a long time. Keeping their grip on Gaza but being careful to avoid waking up the sleeping giant and giving Netanyahu a pretext to invade and flatten the enclave.
Even when they were taking risks, this was within the attrition limits.
What we have witnessed is a suicidal action with zero strategic justification. Coincidentally with Houthi and Hezbollah involvement. How strange.
All of this when the links between Tehran and Putin's Russia are getting closer by the day.
The Palestinians were a pawn and they have been pawned. Notwithstanding Israel's decade long land grab, they made the strategic mistake to take side in a feud in which they had nothing to gain.
Israel will also achieve very little. They will only write another black page of their history that will be remembered for generations. Putin, Netanyahu, the Mollas and the GOP hard liners are the only winners here. Everybody else is losing.
Hamas had been keeping quiet for a long time. Keeping their grip on Gaza but being careful to avoid waking up the sleeping giant and giving Netanyahu a pretext to invade and flatten the enclave.
Sorry but this is deluded. Gaza is an unlivable place under siege.
For the sake of argument (c) Bassem, Imagine a world with no Hamas, a world governed by Palestinians who recognize Israel, renounce armed struggle. Lets call this world "The West Bank and East Al Quds".
No Festival, No Hamas, yet 110 people have been murdered by the occupation in the last month. People live under constant oppression, while marches of fascists chanting racist genocidal slogan https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2023/5/18/far-right-israelis-shut-down-jerusalems-old-city-with-march
That's the non-violent side of the equation, and the people are subjected to brutal apartheid and daily harassment and murder violent dispossession. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2023/10/15/in-jerusalems-old-town-israel-soldiers-do-what-they-want-to-palestinians
So the idea that is divorced from the people in besieged enclave of Palestinian refugees violently expelled from the 250 villages in the south of Palestine in 1948 and 1967, is as realistic as saying that Londoners didn't care about the kids killed by the Concert Bomber because it happened in Manchester.
The Palestinians are an occupied people all over Palestine from river to sea, and the Palestinians are diplomatically outmatched. We have a televised genocide, with the aggressor murdering kids by the tens of thousands, bombing tens of hospitals, and still apologists blanket the airwaves.
You have heard Palestine, more now than you did before the events of October 7. But you presume that all the atrocity propaganda is true, and that is clearly not proven.
You also assume that the response would be different depending on what action was undertaken, that's untrue, the ZSTG was humiliated and is riven with internal conflict, the response is about unifying the messianic racists with the secular fascists in the only thing the ZSTG agrees on, the violent murder of Palestinians. So whatever they did, this response was baked on.
Citing the Israeli military’s preliminary investigations, Zitun describes an utterly chaotic situation: “The air activity on the first day was not organized, and in the skies pilots had to improvise solutions to the complicated and unprecedented situation: much of the firing and targeting directions received from forces battling on the ground reached the pilots via phone calls or images sent by WhatsApp.”
...
It is not explained why anyone would think Israelis would not run amid such a violent and chaotic situation, but according to Zitun, the army concluded that “the deception worked for a little while, until the Apache pilots understood they needed to sidestep their restrictions.”
He also says that some pilots started “on their own initiative to spray the terrorists with cannons without permission from their superiors.”
Two elements stand out here: By the military’s own admission, Israeli pilots could not distinguish clearly between Palestinian combatants and Israeli civilians but decided to open fire with massive amounts of weaponry anyway.

Again what does Iran have to do with Palestinians not wanted to be murdered by Eastern European Terrorists. For the Geopolitical spin, you might look at the US plan to normalize relations with the dictators of the Arab Regimes https://theintercept.com/2023/10/09/israel-palestine-gaza-diplomacy/ That has completely faded, so from a basic geopolitical objective, that's something which benefits Palestinians generally and doesn't have any obvious benefit to Iran especially since "On March 10, Saudi Arabia, Iran, and China issued a joint statement announcing an agreement to resume diplomatic relations between Riyadh and Tehran. " https://carnegieendowment.org/2023/03/30/riyadh-s-motivations-behind-saudi-iran-deal-pub-89421
So this actually doesn't help Iran, nor actually does it help the Lebanese who don't seem in an awful rush to get involved, perhaps because getting involved in more than a limited manner would take the international pressure off the ZSTG.
Palestine is alone, abandoned by the world, and is fighting to exist. They'll take help from whoever will help them, but a hundred years of experience
We are a nation threatened by disappearance. - ‘Isa and Yusuf al-‘Isa, Filastin, May 7, 1914
shows they can't trust anybody, least of all Iran or "their Arab Brothers" to liberate them, the experience of the post Oslo generation makes it plain that they have no hope, no future. But your explanation is Iran.
Today, the conflict that was engendered by this classic nineteenth-
century European colonial venture in a non-European land, supported
from 1917 onward by the greatest Western imperial power of its age, is
rarely described in such unvarnished terms. Indeed, those who analyze
not only Israeli settlement efforts in Jerusalem, the West Bank, and the
occupied Syrian Golan Heights, but the entire Zionist enterprise from
the perspective of its colonial settler origins and nature are often vilified.
Many cannot accept the contradiction inherent in the idea that although
Zionism undoubtedly succeeded in creating a thriving national entity in
Israel, its roots are as a colonial settler project (as are those of other mod-
ern countries: the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand).
Nor can they accept that it would not have succeeded but for the support
of the great imperial powers, Britain and later the United States. Zionism,
therefore, could be and was both a national and a colonial settler move-
ment at one and the same time.

A long diatribe totally missing the point.
Despite my sympathy for the plight of the Palestinian people, I had to downvote your response.
How often did the Hamas kill 1200 people in a SINGLE DAY (majority of which civilians) in the past? Never ever. This is totally unheard of. Even 12 did not happen,
So WHY NOW?
So WHY precisely at the moment when Putin needs a diversion and needs to undermine the West's efforts to support the Ukraine's survival war?
How come Hamas could not understand they would trigger an all-out war from Netanyahu, never to miss a pretext to push his advantage?
How come Hamas could not understand they would forfeit in one day all the international support they had painstakingly acquired over the past decades?
How come Hamas could not understand they would undercut all the political support the Palestinian people had in ISRAEL itself (Peace Now movement)?
What has Hamas been told by Iran to engage in such a suicidal attack? Why could they not refuse to follow Iran's orders?
Firstly - you assume facts which are not in evidence.
Lets cite Haaretz as being in the Israeli press, they are likely to not be biased against ZSTG https://www.haaretz.com/israel-news/2023-10-19/ty-article-magazine/israels-dead-the-names-of-those-killed-in-hamas-massacres-and-the-israel-hamas-war/0000018b-325c-d450-a3af-7b5cf0210000 That once you filter through it says a 1/3rd are active duty soldier.
He goes on to describe what happened on October 7:
“The Coordination and Liaison Office was attacked on October 7 together with all the outposts along the division’s line. A large Hamas force seized the adjacent Erez Crossing, which was closed for the Simhat Torah holiday. From there, within minutes and with no resistance, they advanced into the military base, killing and kidnapping the soldiers of the Civil Administration, though a few of them managed to return fire before being hit… Brig. Gen. Rosenfeld entrenched himself in the division’s subterranean war room together with a handful of male and female soldiers, trying desperately to rescue and organize the sector under attack. Many of the soldiers, most of them not combat personnel, were killed or wounded outside. The division was compelled to request an aerial strike against the base itself in order to repulse the terrorists.”
This dry, complimentary description of the high commander, hiding with a few soldiers in an underground bunker and ordering an aerial bombardment of “the base” where his soldiers were fighting against Hamas militants, maybe wounded and maybe taken as prisoners, has a lot to say about the Israeli psyche in these bloody times.

“The terrorists shot them?” Golan asks.
“No, they were killed by the crossfire,” Porat responds. “Understand there was very, very heavy crossfire.”
Golan presses: “So our forces may have shot them?”
“Undoubtedly,” the former captive responds, and adds, “They eliminated everyone, including the hostages because there was very, very heavy crossfire.”
“After insane crossfire, two tank shells were shot into the house. It’s a small kibbutz house, nothing big,” Porat explains.
Porat and the man who took her captive both survived. The Palestinian was taken prisoner by Israeli forces. But according to Porat, almost everyone else in the settlement was killed, wounded or missing, believed to have been taken to Gaza.
Porat told Kan she lost dozens of friends who had been at the rave – people she would regularly see at parties in Israel’s trance scene.
“I’m angry at the state, I’m angry at the army,” Porat told Maariv. “For 10 hours the kibbutz was abandoned.”

So WHY precisely at the moment when Putin needs a diversion and needs to undermine the West's efforts to support the Ukraine's survival war?
Russia has defeated Ukraine already, this event doesn't make any difference, other than making the collective west look like racist hypocrites.
How come Hamas could not understand they would trigger an all-out war from Netanyahu, never to miss a pretext to push his advantage?
Why did these people not want to be murdered by Eastern European Terrorists, the ZSTG has openly facistic racists in place, which even by the dismal standards of ZTSG.
Bezalel Smotrich (Ukrainian Terrorist)
Religious Zionism head Bezalel Smotrich said on Monday that human rights organizations are an existential threat to Israel and the incoming government must deal with them by "seizing their funds" and acting against them with legal and security measures...HAARETZ, today
Itamar Ben-Gvir (Iraqi Terrorist)
Itamar Ben-Gvir's Jewish Power party, as part of the Religious Zionism political alliance, is expected to play an influential role in the upcoming Israeli government.
Marzel was a founding member of Jewish Power, but was banned from running in the August 2019 election over racist statements.
On Wednesday, he said he would be launching a new far-right party, after criticising Ben-Gvir as too "ideologically flexible".
Ben-Gvir has asked to be appointed as the minister of public security, while his ally Bezalel Smotrich covets the role of defence minister.
The prospect of both appointments has provoked alarm from a number of Israel's allies, including the United States.
The US State Department last week condemned as "abhorrent" a decision by Ben-Gvir to attend an event commemorating Kahane, an anti-Palestinian campaigner and advocate of theocracy.

[1] Nazis
In a statement, the Russian Ministry of Defense said that combatants from the Ukrainian neo-Nazi Aidar Battalion have been firing weapons from the Svyato-Uspensky Nikolo-Vasilievsky Monastery in Nikolskoy, a village in Donetsk, where they have been "holding around 300 locals and monks hostage."
The Aidar Battalion's motto is inspired by the Third Reich, Adolf Hitler's dictatorship state from the 1930s through the 1940s.
Upon this offensive, the Russian troops moved in and killed some of the combatants, while others fled. In their statement, the ministry said that "the hostages were not hurt and the monastery was not damaged.”
Meanwhile, in Kharkov, Ukraine's second-largest city, militants from the Azov Battalion, an openly neo-Nazi armed group part of the Ukrainian security forces, have been blending in with civilians disguising themselves in civilian clothes and the Ukrainian army's uniform.

[3] US Backed Coup
The reality is that, after two decades of eastward Nato expansion, this crisis was triggered by the west's attempt to pull Ukraine decisively into its orbit and defence structure, via an explicitly anti-Moscow EU association agreement. Its rejection led to the Maidan protests and the installation of an anti-Russian administration – rejected by half the country – that went on to sign the EU and International Monetary Fund agreements regardless.
No Russian government could have acquiesced in such a threat from territory that was at the heart of both Russia and the Soviet Union. Putin's absorption of Crimea and support for the rebellion in eastern Ukraine is clearly defensive, and the red line now drawn: the east of Ukraine, at least, is not going to be swallowed up by Nato or the EU.
But the dangers are also multiplying. Ukraine has shown itself to be barely a functioning state: the former government was unable to clear Maidan, and the western-backed regime is "helpless" against the protests in the Soviet-nostalgic industrial east. For all the talk about the paramilitary "green men" (who turn out to be overwhelmingly Ukrainian), the rebellion also has strong social and democratic demands: who would argue against a referendum on autonomy and elected governors?
Meanwhile, the US and its European allies impose sanctions and dictate terms to Russia and its proteges in Kiev, encouraging the military crackdown on protesters after visits from Joe Biden and the CIA director, John Brennan. But by what right is the US involved at all, incorporating under its strategic umbrella a state that has never been a member of Nato, and whose last elected government came to power on a platform of explicit neutrality? It has none, of course – which is why the Ukraine crisis is seen in such a different light across most of the world. There may be few global takers for Putin's oligarchic conservatism and nationalism, but Russia's counterweight to US imperial expansion is welcomed, from China to Brazil.
In fact, one outcome of the crisis is likely to be a closer alliance between China and Russia, as the US continues its anti-Chinese "pivot" to Asia. And despite growing violence, the cost in lives of Russia's arms-length involvement in Ukraine has so far been minimal compared with any significant western intervention you care to think of for decades.

A cursory knowledge of history will fill in the blanks that Israel's land grab from Palestine has been running for some time.
To say nothing of Lebanon, Syria, and the West Bank.
Lines on maps. Religions. Israel will not be content with anything but the complete extermination of certain groups.
If that isn't hypocrisy of the highest order given the events of WW2, what else is?
How come Hamas could not understand they would forfeit in one day all the international support they had painstakingly acquired over the past decades?
What support, they are a proscribed org in the UK, and I imagine in the US. Independent on the Zionist Hasbara, I don't see what support you imagine they have, or what difference it makes. Gaza is under siege and occupation, blockaded by land, air and sea. The water is undrinkable, the population is unemployed and desperate.
Zionist State Terrorist Group choose to occupy Palestine, kidnap Palestinian children as human shields, whilst the encircled blockaded population of Gaza have no shelters, no means of escape, and a population of which 50% is under 18. Every attack on Gaza is defacto a war crime, a deliberate targetting of a civilian population the majority of which are children.
Ramallah, May 19, 2022—Israeli soldiers used a 16-year-old Palestinian girl as a human shield in front of an Israeli military vehicle while deployed in the northern occupied West Bank city of Jenin last week.
https://www.dci-palestine.org/israeli_forces_use_palestinian_girl_as_a_human_shield_in_jenin Which is an unbroken thread of Zionist Terror which you conspicuously fail to condemn in your faux concern for human rights,
A United Nations human rights body accused Israeli forces on Thursday of mistreating Palestinian children, including by torturing those in custody and using others as human shields

So WHY NOW?
Because Netanyahu needed it, wanted it. The fact that israel had complete control over the Gaza water, food, medicine, power, fuel and communications infrastructure. Especially the infrastructure means that were able to monitor ALL comms traffic within and in and out of Gaza. They were able to track every phone and using DNS poisoning install backdoors into phone on standard OS upgrades.
The level of control is shown by the ability to shutdown the whole network when required and to locate a specific hamas members to a single ambulance. With that level of control and monitoring israel knew this was coming and when. They could of stopped it or at least limited the damage, but this would not help Netanyahu.
Firstly the much vaunted Information control is bollocks. They have informants, dragnet surveillance but that doesn't help you filter the wheat from the chaff. That's the role of Intelligence Officers, and they fundamentally are at a disadvantage.
ZSTG is a racist entity, racism is at heart an information processing disorder. They simply don't respect the people they are oppressing sufficently to take military threats seriously, so they ignored the reports as being simply training exercises.
They idea that they are bombing ambulances to target people other than the sick and dying is a cruel joke, the ZSTG bombed ambulances because the terrorists are cowards and wish to cause massive deaths amongst the Palestinian population.
They are not targeting fighters, at all. They are not attempting to target fighters at all, they simply are extracting revenge because they have been exposed as cowards who despite all the advanced weaponry available to them, are outmatched by a unmounted light infantry force, so murder the population in frustration.
The paper tiger as been exposed and is flailing around while calling for the Imperial sponsor to protect and fund it.
Hamas has built very little international support. That (for whatever it's worth) goes to Fatah and the PLO.
And that is one thing Hamas hopes to reverse with this war. They'll make the Palestinian cause so toxic in the west, that the PLO's support will dry up completely, leaving Hamas as the undisputed champions of all Palestinians.
Because sure, Hamas hates the west and it hates the Israelis, but what it hates most of all is Fatah.
Israel pushed and promoted hamas, funded hamas to take control of Gaza. It wanted to divide and conquer the Palestinians.
https://www.timesofisrael.com/for-years-netanyahu-propped-up-hamas-now-its-blown-up-in-our-faces/
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/worldviews/wp/2014/07/30/how-israel-helped-create-hamas/
Netanyahu fostered Hamas to be the most visible face of the Palestinian cause, because it lets him off the hook from having to deal with them. You can't be expected to negotiate with someone who says up front that they want nothing more than to kill you.
Netanyahu can't afford to negotiate with any Palestinians, because it would destabilise his political alliances. But he's under constant Western pressure to deal with the PLO and Fatah. Fostering Hamas was a way of deflecting that.
Gaza has evolved into effectively a high tech prison camp organised by the Israelis.
I mean, where else can you find a national border where the opposing side of the border installs Aliens style sentry guns to blat at anyone moving inside their own borders that gets too close?
I don't condone Hamas actions for one moment but anyone to surprised by their actions is ludicrously naiive.
The blood on both sides hands is long standing. Repeated acts of revenge and repression will never break the cycle.
How many here know the origins of Israel and the various resistance movements? The atrocities committed by both Irgun and Britain? Rooted in terror tactics as well. You reap what you sow.
No doubt some know it all will now make some statement about this post as being antisemitic. Kindly fuck off if you are going to do that. Evil is evil, whatever name and history you hide behind. Change or enjoy the wrath and scorn. There is little worse than a hypocrite when it comes to genocide.
They share the ideology, methodology and personnel as the people who perpetrated the Deir Yassin atrocity. [2]
Ezra Yachin, who was involved in the 1948 Deir Yassin massacre, tells troops 'these animals can no longer live', referring to Palestinians [1]
A 95-year-old settler has become the oldest Israeli reservist to join the Israeli occupation forces amid the Palestinian Resistance's Operation Al-Aqsa Flood and a continuing Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip.
The Israel National News website shared a photo of the settler, identified as Ezra Yachin, in his IOF uniform and holding a weapon.
The news website indicated that Yachin has been called back up to "motivate" Israeli occupation forces "and to recount how he survived Arab pogroms in Jerusalem [occupied al-Quds] during his childhood."
According to the Israeli news website, Yachin served as a combat soldier with the radical Stern Zionist gang, also known as Lehi.
...
However, the Israel National News deliberately left out the part that Lehi took part in the Deir Yassin massacre that Zionist gangs committed against Palestinians.
On April 9, 1948, the bloodthirsty Irgun and Lehi Zionist gangs brutally attacked the Palestinian village of Deir Yassin near al-Quds, forcibly displacing its residents, committing horrible atrocities against them, and murdering around 107 to 120 civilians, including women, children, and elderly individuals.

And once again the phantom downvoter/denier shows up when your post even has referenced sources.
I do not profess to know the history entirely though I have read various sources cited in tabletop wargames. The British Way (GMT Games) is a particularly enlightening look at what happened in the late 1940s.
The atrocities enacted by both factions can only be brought to an end by choosing to do so. I encourage anyone wrapped up in the cycle of hatred to think about that.
Depending on what aspects of the history you are interested in.
A very brief summary is a terrorist group made themselves useful to an imperial sponsor, imported sufficient men/arms to murder and violently dispossess the largely defenseless rural population.
But Zionism has to be understood as a literary phenomenon at it's base. So start with Kanafani: On Zionist Literature, and then Oborne: The Fate of Abraham.
That will cover the more overview side of things, then you can deep dive as interests you. How the ZSTG actually murdered and bombed people out of their homes; see Suarez: Palestine Hijacked / State of Terror; Pappe: The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine.
What remains of the villages the ZSTG bombed: Khalidi W: Before their Diaspora / All that Remains.
There are the Zionist Side of the "new historians", such as Benny Morris - he's a Zionist, and that colours his view, but still it's an excellent resource when used as a jumping off point.
A useful exercise is to take an event described by Morris and cross-reference with the other Historians. He's biased, markedly so, but still a useful resource.
So he will say X took place, but the motivation he imputes is often suspect. That said, you cannot take him as the only resource. So read Khalidi R: A Hundred Years of War on Palestine / w Pappe: The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine; and cross check the descriptions of events.

The ZSTG is a the real group, the various names were about deniability, in reality it was one org.
Seeking to stem the Jewish terrorist campaign in Palestine, the British Army closed the Jewish Agency, arrested much of its leadership and some of Haganah’s command, and confiscated tonnes of documents in Operation AGATHA on the 29th June 1946. Irgun retaliated by bombing the British headquarters at the King David Hotel on the 22nd July 1946, killing 91 British personnel and civilians. Responding to parliamentary pressure, the Government issued a White Paper in August 1946 which included GCHQ intercepts. These presented proof of the links between the Jewish Agency and Haganah (and the latter with Irgun and Lehi). Much of this was derived from eight ISOATS and ISTRIA SIGINT reports which were heavily source protected in the final paper.
