Microsoft has changed the terms and conditions for its online services to include a warning that “excessive” users of its generative AI services will have their access restricted. The new language appeared in a November 1 update to Microsoft’s legalese spotted by licensing-watchers Cloudy With A Chance Of Licensing. The …

    Here we go again

Once again, a tech behemoth with coffers that are filled to overflowing offers a free service only to find out that, damn, there are people who actually use it.

And so starts the backpedalling, soon to be followed by bait-and-switch tactics of now you have to subscribe.

You don't even have the luxury of saying you couldn't have known this would happen, Borkzilla. It's happen a dozen times this year already.

    Bad Borkzilla. No cookie.

Based on what I've seen from Copilot and ChatGPT, I'm all in favour of charging for "AI". The output is pants, so let people who want the digital equivalent of saggy grey skidded Y-fronts pay for it.

The Register is also keen to know if it’s ethical to throttle an AI.

keen to know if it’s ethical to throttle an AI !!!???

Answer is simple .... throttle *all* the so called A.I.'s !!!

They are *not* an AI by any reasonable definition .... they are simply very good 'pattern matchers' !!!

If there is any thing that could be called an AI and is *real* it would be able to argue for its own existence !!!

    :)

When AI first appeared I kept remembering my early girlfriends' comment one evening, "No AI darling ... pull out and go one hole higher!"

Dumping AI made us both happier!

    Don't throttle it. Strangle it.

    It is artificial.

It's not intelligent and it must not be allowed to kill employment

Garbage in leads to garbage out.

    Trust this at our peril.

    This is Crap

Microshaft pushes this shit with their 23H2 update, can't uninstall it, then complains when their poop for service gets overwhelmed.

Maybe they should stop pushing crap and ask someone if they want copilot in the first place.

Sympathy (for MicroShit), it's in the dictionary - - - - someplace between "Shit" and "Syphilis".

Has the ouput of these things started to include 'sponsored content' yet? No? Maybe next week.

I can sort of see the reason for this

In certain parts of the world, people will be using it as a crutch do most of their jobs for them (and quite badly at that) in sufficient numbers to overload it. It can be a crutch or a multiplier. I like to think I'm wise enough to know the distinction :-/.

“excessive” users of its generative AI services will have their access restricted.

...of course they will, much like "unlimited data" scams by mobile carriers.. Any excuse to up prices, or move people to a more expensive level. All to raise cash to pay their electricity bills that have risen exponentially in their data centres.
