back to article Amazon's Project Kuiper satellites prepare for testing after one late Prime delivery

Amazon's Project Kuiper has continued to make progress as its pair of prototype satellites get ready to route internet data. KuiperSat-1 and KuiperSat-2 were launched on the Protoflight mission atop an Atlas V at the beginning of October. The two mark the much-delayed start of the construction of Amazon's low-latency satellite …

Yes, they may be behind. But they're not Musk.

I'd buy them just for that, when they get the constellation running.

This is something Musk doesn't understand

      Or chooses to ignore.

Previously he was seen as fairly apolitical, but now that he's "chosen a side" as it were and not quietly and without any real effect on the business like say Tim Cook's LGBT support, but in the loudest and most culturally intrusive way possible.

It has clearly already dealt a massive hit to Tesla - since he bought Twitter they have been forced to constantly cut prices despite new cars being in a shortage for the last several years (and just when they showed signs of recovery, the UAW strike has taken us back to shortage) where previously Tesla always had long waiting lists. Tesla's gross margins have been halved, so it isn't as though they're cutting prices because their costs are going down.

I would guess a significant portion of the US feels about Starlink like you do - though maybe that doesn't matter a whole lot for them since the only viable market for Starlink is in rural areas not served by traditional broadband and that's demographically where there would be the greatest support for Musk's Trumpy makeover. That doesn't make them any more likely to purchase Starlink when they are the only game in town, but it will make it harder for Kuiper to gain a foothold since they would see its association with Bezos (who Trump hates because he owns the Washington Post and hates nothing more than real jouralism) as a negative.

The reverse is true for Tesla however, the people demographically most likely to buy an EV are EXACTLY the people most put off by Musk's new MAGA branding.

You think Bezosbub is any better?

There is some chance competition will limit awfulness. If Cthulhu put up a constellation then the others would have to make a real effort to improve.

Better as a human? No, he's a voluntary billionaire. Of course he's not nice.

What he isn't, though, is a loud-mouth lying twat.

Are you sure it wasn't delivered before ?

They may have left it behind the dustbin.

    ( on collection day )

Re: Are you sure it wasn't delivered before ?

Once had an Amazon driver put my parcel in my recycling bin. The full one. That I'd put out on the road that morning for the collection.

Sheer fluke of coming home, and wondering where my "delivered" parcel was made me look in there.

I mean, who'd suspect that a recycling bin full of crushed Amazon boxes awaiting collection/disposal wasn't a good place to put a small Amazon parcel with things actually inside it?

I have to say, though, that that incident represents probably less than than 0.01% of all the Amazon deliveries I've had in the 20+ years I've been using them.
