back to article Gulf states and 'The Stans' could become new tech hotspot – analyst

The gulf states and former Soviet nations of central Asia are set to become a new hub of tech activity, according to Anatoly Motkin, president of Strategeast – a non-profit that operates in Ukraine, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan, and works to develop their digital economies. In Motkin's telling, European and Central …

Citation needed. I think it's way more likely that tech talent will continue to be sucked out of the region instead of it becoming a tech hub. IT professionals will move to be not near a war zone. The security situation hasn't exactly improved in the last few years.

Israel has shown the relationship to be inverse too. Society got a little less civil and people started leaving, sometimes taking their tech company with them.

Just look how well we're doing in the West (Europe + North America) after a decade and a half of big social media and disruptive tech...

Indeed, if only we could return to the centuries of liberty, egality and equality in Europe before the industrial revolution

While life as a P in I isnt paradise, for a muslim or arabic country things are actually quite good. Other countries where muslims love each other kill each other more often, eg Syria, Egypt, Iraq, Iran etc.

Is that before or after they have eradicated Israel, the current hotspot for tech?

    1. Yet Another Anonymous coward Silver badge

Obviously they should just start wars among themselves.

Last time we did that we got radar, computers, space rockets, atomic power and powdered eggs out of it

        Really?

        Powdered eggs?

That would make China a paragon of democracy...

In the West, an Orwellian dystopia beckons as the Empire strikes back and governments begin 'taking back control' of tech and the net, repurposing it for surveillance.

I'm sure the dodgy stans and the Middle East both wish to max out the development of the latest surveillance tech, as Israel has been doing.

Tech empowers people until governments take it over. Then it becomes a really effective means of monitoring and suppressing them.

    Brave person

Authoritarian, corruption rampant states. Most of the countries named would come under that description. Oh and add neighbours from hell. Not sure if I would want my pension fund investing in those places. Sad to say as I have visited most of them. Anonymous as I want to go back some time. P.S.most not all.

Bravo, El Reg .... doing IT's Prime Objective Thing

"Working together, the Gulf and the Caucasus could become a huge hub of digital skills," he [Anatoly Motkin, president of Strategeast] opined.

So, in other words, easily understood by those enamoured of creating new worlds/new world orders/a novel more orderly world order, [and with those being only three future ventures to realise possible and therefore more likely than not], a perfect incubator region for those sensitive disruptor technologies ignored by other conflicted and compromised areas unable to avoid the repercussions of their present administrative systems and the consequences of the success of a revolutionary competitor and/or almighty opposition, which is quite naturally where such novel technologies migrate to in order to prosper and reward clearer deeper thinkers and future builders alike.

Thanks for the info and intel, Simon Sherwood.

Why Private and Pirate Sectors Eclipse Public Civil Service Policy Wonks?

UK government is trying to hire a "Deputy Director for AI International,"

I have a number of questions.

Is the Director for AI International, Ian Hogarth ?..... https://www.gov.uk/government/news/tech-entrepreneur-ian-hogarth-to-lead-uks-ai-foundation-model-taskforce

Who do they [the likes of AI International] take instruction from? Whose ring do they kiss?

And are those who are employed in providing UKGBNI government with what can easily be revolutionary, ground-breaking, bunker-busting work of extraordinarily rich raw and incredibly valuable and highly valued worth, ..... and thus be a juicy extremely attractive target for poaching and feting to the likes of the gulf states and former Soviet nations of central Asia which, according to Anatoly Motkin, president of Strategeast, are set to become a new hub of tech activity, ..... subject to regulatory hog-tying NDA OSA* capture with the threat of incarceration in a penal facility one's constant reward for any sharing of even one's own virgin thoughts/proprietary intellectual property physically realised in a practical activity.

Such would surely be akin to a crazy official assault upon the free will of valuable universal entities with attractive expensive secrets to share virtually for free to be free with others from such a regime as practise regulatory hog-tying NDA OSA capture, and thus gravely to be regarded and avoided and declined if presented as a default government requirement? ....... and especially so whenever tempted to capture with a relative pittance.

Down that fool's gold path is AIMadness.

NDA OSA* .... Non Disclosure Agreement Official Secrets Act

Re: Why Private and Pirate Sectors Eclipse Public Civil Service Policy Wonks?

And the Registered golden silence of a non responsive, irresponsible replying counter argument against, and abject objectionable untenable denial of the presence and employment by UKGBNI government of such regulatory hog-tying NDA OSA* capture ..... and other governments too, similarly so compromised and terrified by the sudden unexpected arrival and remote virtual display of dirty hereditary secrets and honest unheralded truths ...... be proof positive that such is the fool's gold path to AIMadness they have chosen to try secure and administer reign and rules upon and over?

What a load of plonkers and wannabe-lion donkeys. J'accuse.
