back to article Microsoft Cortana's farewell tour comes to the Windows Insider program

Microsoft has hammered yet another stake through the heart of its doomed assistant, Cortana, with a Windows Insider release that removes the service once and for all. Killing off Cortana has taken Microsoft a while since it signalled that the end was coming. Support for the assistant as a standalone application in Windows has …

    Good bye, good riddance

"Copilot in Windows began turning up with the September 26 update...and, combined with Bing Chat and voice access in Windows, is expected to plug the Cortana-shaped hole in the lives of customers who actually used it.

All three worldwide users of Cortana must be just overjoyed with that.

    From the Other Side

"Was I a good product," Cortana asks, "Was I helpful?"

    Clippy screams wordlessly in response.

It is dark between the flames...

    Cortana, PUH-lease!!!

I never used Cortana, and since I'm in IT, at my work place, when first setting up new Windows 10 PCs, our ultimate work competition, was to see how FAST we could shut her up during the Win10 OOBE setup, because Microsoft at first was so hell bent on making you listen to her SPEAK about how to setup the PC. What a terrible idea Microsoft had with that technology. I don't think I ever met anyone who actually USED it to be honest.

I used it on WinPhone, and it was far superior at the tine to anything Siri and whatever Google's is.

It never made sense to fudge it onto the desktop, just like the useless Windows 8 desktop. Brilliant on the phone, terrible on the pc.

I'd suggest you HAVE a go with the windows DEVICE troubleshooter - you SEEM to have SOME problem with your caps-lock key

Ah yes, remember that too! Particularly when it defaulted to the US version which had a particularly whiny voice and talked utter shite (wasn't it something like 'a little bit of wifi here, a bit of sign-in there', or something like that?)

Think it might have been removed from the installers of later W10 releases (not installed W10 on a laptop for a while - on desktops I tend to disconnect the internal speaker anyway!).

    Copilot?

Now I wonder if Copilot will end in the same manner. Let's face it, it is only a supercharged Clippy/Cortans. Nothing would surprise me.

        Errrr.... Everything.

Lord Elon will make MS into another Twittler and sack 90% of the staff. Then he'll make W12 into two uneditable objects that can't be patched (like his giga castings).

        Ok, I'm exagerating but....?

      1) Give Copilot a voice

      2) Announce that the Co in Copilot is short for Cortana

      3) She's back baby.

Good riddance to a waste of space!!
