back to article OpenAI's DALL·E 3 teams up with ChatGPT to turn brainfarts into art

OpenAI will release the latest version of its text-to-image tool DALL·E in October. Unlike previous generations, DALL·E 3 has been integrated with OpenAI's text-only generation tool ChatGPT to help craft more detailed input descriptions or prompts. The quality of images produced by the software is dependent on the level of …

    Apropos Dall-E

I was quite surprised that my prompt, more-or-less “man in yellow jacket next to blue car”, kept throwing up images of a blue jacket and yellow car. I had to try lots of variations of the phrase before I got a blue car.

But I did eventually get what I wanted. Bizarre…

      Meh

      Re: Apropos Dall-E

Which suggests it picks up "yellow", "blue", "jacket", "car.", and possibly "man". But doesn't know what any of those words actually mean or how to link them.

Because no AI understands. The "I" is a marketing lie.

And where does the original content come from? These "tools" are parasites and bad for the environment.

Could be worse, it could be picking up "person", "woman", "man", "camera", "tv" and nobody knows what it means.

    Van Go? Van STOP!

Alexa, in common with all north Americans, still does not know how to pronounce Van Gogh, never mind the emotional intensity of the art.

I did one of those company mandated health and safety courses the other day and the cartoon video had a text-to-speech audio track and apart from the "uncanny valley" of the stillted speech and unusual pause probably caused by punctuation in the original text, kept "talking" about P90's in various parts of the course and annoyingly pronounced as "Pee 90 Ess" every fucking time. It was annoying to such an extent that I wandered off and made a cup of coffee, came back and did the "exam" without watching most of the video and still passed since it's designed to be hard to fail anyway :-)

And that's not even AI, it's just following a set rules that have been poorly programmed in.

    WTF?

"You don't want a rote, robotic companion in your home"

He's not wrong, but then I can improve that quote to "You don't want a digital companion in your home".

Alexa, could you flog a dead horse for me?

This is where Amazon discover what sunk cost fallacy means, Alexa and Echo speakers are never going to be profitable even after after spending yet more millions on sprinkling AI pixie dust on them.
