Chief information security officers (or CISOs) see human error as the most significant risk to data protection compared to other UK board directors. Meatbag errors are keeping CISOs awake at night, according to Proofpoint, which has just released a "Cybersecurity: The 2023 Board Perspective" report. The organization told The …

    Good

The more risk-aware the board-level and C-level execs are, the less likely that problems are swept under the rug.

The real question is - are they afraid enough of the possible consequences that they are willing to cough up the appropriate budget??

Make executives personally criminally, civilly, fiscally, and professionally liable for company decisions and abuses/failures in their area of responsibility. Additionally, make CEOs, Presidents, and other over-arching powers responsible for the company in general along with the execs in specific areas. Throw board members in there for good measure.

I'm pretty sure you'll see a very quick shift on many fronts as companies suddenly get very serious about their legal and regulatory requirements.

Put one or two boards in jail when there's a breach caused by complacency, I'm sure the situation would dramatically improve after that.

(Probably won't ever happen, boards have too many friends in all countries)

Meatbag errors are keeping CISOs awake at night?

What, you think human error is less of a problem than malware? If so you're mostly alone in that view.

    Sounds good to me!

Meatbag mishaps provide job security for InfoSec. There are always fresh meatbags entering the workforce making the same newbie mistakes, ensuring a steady supply of cybersecurity work.

Or am I being too cynical...?
