back to article Now Foxconn hopes to lure TSMC, Japan’s TMH into India chip fab pact – report

Just days after its $19.5 billion semiconductor manufacturing venture with India's Vedanta went belly up, Foxconn is reportedly in talks with Taiwanese giant TSMC and Japan's TMH to build chip factories in India. The proposed venture would see the creation of four or five manufacturing lines in the New Delhi country, the …

It seems logical and sane to me for TSMC to expand into developed and safe countries / regions like the U.S. and Europe. The infrastructure is already developed and in place whereas India lacks even the most basic utilities like clean water, sanitation, a stable power supply and a transport network (roads etc.).

Asking an investing company to help pay for this is too much to ask, IMHO. India should shoulder 100% of the infrastructure improvement costs.

It’s variable depending on where it is.

Their loss. TSMC is unlikely to approve the deal.

All of it is available; you are just using stereotypes. I have visited Cisco in Bangalore, and its offices are the same as the ones here in Milpitas/Sunnyvale. There were no issues with power, sanitation, water, food, etc. There are many other companies operating out of India.

The main issues revolve around the bureaucracy, and for the life of me, I can't get a deal done in India if the government is involved in any manner. So India funding even 100% will not work because the bureaucracy will mess it up. Things will take years.

I still remember the Indian govt. trying to buy the M777 ... they finally bought it, I believe, 13 years later. So, even though I fully applaud the Indian govt. push for putting together an attractive deal to get TSMC in, that is also the problem.

All of this with the CCP looming overhead...

Foxconn (as I recall from a few years back) has competent engineers, some of whom I met and talked with back then.

There is NO doubt in my mind that they would all vacate Taiwan should the CCP come rolling in ( if they had the chance top do so).

India would be a nice close location to vacate to. (Just sayin')

What I *REALLY* hope this means is better (more stable) supply chain NOT sourced in China, to supply the rest of the world. We would ALL benefit from THAT.
