Hmmmm

I wonder how much of an effect this will have. For example Huawei already makes its own GPUs for its cloud infrastructure, and has been marketing Huawei Cloud AI for over 5 years.

I find this kind of news article painful because its always about some way our government is trying to stop something from happening. I want to read some news about how the government makes something happen (apart from the inevitable news about some groundbreaking new weapon system that is going to be invulnerable)(assuming they ever get the damn thing to work).

If I recall correctly the Chinese have quite adequate technological capability -- they've got a space station (home made because our Congress has banned any cooperation with China, of course), a Mars rover (now sadly a bit defunct but quite serviceable while it lasted) and other bit and pieces that suggest that they're not all illiterate peasants. Just think of the possibilities if we figured out a way of cooperating with them. We could, and should, still compete but there would be none of this zero sum game where the only way we know how to win is to somehow cause them to lose, a truly ineffective strategy IMHO.

WSJ, and Uncle Sam, perhaps blinkered by their own campaign of anti-China rhetoric and reportage fails to notice the massive resources following diktats from on high being poured into everything tech in China.

We need to get into this so there's a British AI in the game !
