    141 percent premium?

Kinda overpaying, aren't they? Normal premium over market rates I've seen in past takeovers ranges from 15% to 40%.

Now wondering if there's some powerful politician's friend who's taking a bath at the current prices and needs bailing out...

      Well ...

They wanted to make absolutely sure thay got their hands on it.

Yesterday's news are the oldest thing in the world, but ...

It's typical of reporters that don't often cover financial news to get the numbers mixed up. Or confuse revenue, profit, turnover, margin or other technical terms.

Reuters reported the takeover at a 35% premium over Friday's closing price so I conclude the premium estimate is 41%, not 141%. And Reuters knows financial news.

Re: 141 percent premium? - the biggest error is in the preposition

... a $6.3 billion bid for JSR at a 141 percent premium over of its current share price. would be factually correct, even if it made wall street reporters cringe.

... a $6.3 billion bid for JSR at a 141 percent premium of its current share price. would just sound weird to anybody.

Blame it on spell checker and beer, and everything will be OK.

    The G7 are emulating China.

Embracing universal surveillance and state ownership. Whilst condemning China for doing it first.

Not sure where your from, but you may want to do a bit of research before claiming state ownership is a new thing. Try looking at EDF. Nederlandse Spoorwegen, or UNICOR if you want a particularly insipid one.
