back to article IBM bets $4.6 billion that cloud bills and IT sprawl will be enduring problems

IBM has announced it will acquire Apptio for $4.6 billion and use it to build “a 'virtual command center' for spend management and optimization" of enterprise IT. Apptio plays in the field of FinOps – a term that describes financial management of IT operations. FinOps has come into vogue because cloud computing, for all its …

      Re: What happened next

In case you hadn't noticed, Ginni has left the building, and anyway, at the time the helicopter was rented, not owned by either her personally or IBM. It was just the quickest way of her getting from Paris to Hursley at the time.

Arvid hasn't shown the same interest in making an entrance (I was at Hursley when the helicopter carryiong Ginni landed on the lawn of Hursley House. It was really rather boring.) He will go down as the IBM CEO that emasculated Red Hat!

    Whend did Spending become Spend

We seem to be dropping "ing" with reckless abandon. Computing became compute. Spending has now become "spend".

The worst seems to be phrases like "My laundry needs cleaned" instead of "my laundry needs TO BE cleaned" or "needs cleaning".

Your last example is how they do it North of the border and always have done as far as I know.

The others are an Americanism, just like using like in the like wrong like place all the time.

IT estates sprawl across hybrid multiclouds

I thought moving to the “Cloud” was supposed to simplify infrastructure and save money?

Re: IT estates sprawl across hybrid multiclouds

No. It's just running the same shit on someone else's hardware. Definitely not simplifying.

It never ceases to amaze me, listening to C-Suite bitching their cloud based systems are not as fast (well, you have gone from on-prem servers with fibre-attached disks and your own network to gawd-knows what running gawd-knows where sharing a network link with gawd-knows who).

We had to invent new roles just to keep on top of it (dev-ops, dev-sec-ops, fin-ops etc, etc, etc).

Anywho, this is just another acquisition IBM will feck up in next to no time.

How to kill a product for greenfields. Let IBM or Oracle own it. Both disinvest for years here.
