back to article Capita wins £50M fraud reporting contract with City of London cops

Capita, which is still dealing with a digital break-in that exposed customers' data to criminals, has scored a £50 million contract with the City of London police to run contact and engagement services for the force's fraud reporting service. The five-year agreement kicks off in 2024 and the territorial cops responsible for …

Have victims of crime not been through enough already?

Im guessing the secret plan is to make Capita take the calls so that people give up and drop charges of fraud so the crime figures go down.

    That's impressively low...

For £50m even CAPITA could manage that ... couldn't they?

I think that'll be the number of concurrent users the system will support after Crapita have 'improved' the service. The .3 will be the person who gets fed up waiting for the content to load ;-)

It's almost a shame that this sub-thread will make no sense once the typo is corrected!

Not when you consider £40M of that will go to the pockets of shareholders living in some tax haven

It is also planning a "digital transformation" project to "improve access to different reporting channels, offer multi-lingual services, and introduce speech analytics to drive call quality."

That's handing it all over to chat bots or offshoring calls to somewhere cheap, yes?

    Hello, police?

I'd like to report a fraudulent company. It's named Crapita and it's taken millions without delivering the goods.

  6. dogcatcher

Didn't realise that the City of London police committed that much fraud.

It's a bit like the Met Police's internal investigations & public standards department being staffed by officers who are "on desk duty" due to having had reprimands upheld against them... This was in today's Private Eye as well as the previous one.. Apparently a representative of the Met told the Eye that this is fine..

    2. Graham Dawson Silver badge

They commit a lot of things and usually get away with it, because of their unique status in, and relationship with the City. Even the Met looks clean in comparison to the CoL police.

    Mmmm

My copy of "Private Eye" dropped through the letter box today, will read it soon, but doubt it will contain satire to match this story.

    Dear god in heaven .....!!!

What exactly does it take for the 'Usual Suspects' to be pulled up for being 'Crap' !!!

How many times can a project be won on the basis of a complete random guess at the cost, delivery over run, costs massively over run, and yet you win more business !!!

I sure there must be some very interesting bank accounts in a legal jurisdiction the UK has no power in.

This has been happening for so long it is no longer a surprise.

It would be cheaper to burn £5Billion every year or so, just for the fun of it and not try to deliver any of these projects.

Same end result and the cost would be more manageable as it would be known in advance !!!

    :)

So who’s for starting a sweepstake on how much over budget, late, and lacking in functionality this will be? :-)

I’ll throw my hat in - 20x, 10 years, all of it

What's the betting that the employment speak is really outsourced poorly trained lackeys in some other country who are on a zero hours contract and have to provide their own equipment and Internet connection and train themselves at their own expense. Their hourly rate will be marginally above the minimum to survive in the incredibly poor location they live in... so something like US $2/hour.

    Bonuses all round at Capita.

    Is it April Ghouls Day??

Shirley this must be a joke? Incompetence, inability to run IT infrastructure, insecurity, etc. etc. etc. are all synomous with Crapita

    reputational damage?

How is reputational damage doing anything?

a £50 MILLION contract with a police force literally weeks after getting hacked?!

It beggars belief. Whoever signed this off needs a good hard BOFH meeting with a window

      Re: reputational damage?

It seems to me that this whole operation is, in fact, controlled by the Hyper-BOFH: having organisations outsource services they don't care about to service providers that do not deliver and pay the crap with lots of someone else's (tax payers') money. If this is not brilliant I don't know what is.

    Childish but ....

It takes one to know one .... Crapita should have no problem spotting the wrong 'uns, the only question is will they prosecute or recruit 'em!

    Top sales team?

Do Capita have the most amazing sales teams, or is there basically no competition for these government contracts? (I suppose it could also be corruption.)
