back to article The bonkers water-cooled shoe PC, hexagonal pink workstations, and IKEA-style cases of Computex 2023

Last week’s Computex in Taipei did not disappoint when it came to weird and wonderful gadgetry. The show celebrated its status as the PC industry's biggest annual event by showcasing many exotic custom builds. Taiwanese hardware company Cooler Master let the literal and metaphorical shoe drop with the Nike-like Sneaker X. …

Maybe I'm getting old, but could we at least have a picture?

A picture is worth a thousand videos. Or at least a picture contains only one millivideo of annoyance.

The Reg is using YouTube hosting and it forbids inline fullscreen on mobile. It's just an animated thumbnail.

Besides the functional limits, it seems sad that The Reg can't host its own video.

Does anyone else get SGI vibes off the XSLAB V-raptor SQ nano?

And that means I want one :-)

I'm just confused by the 24-cores of A53, which is a processor from 2012 and usually only used by the cheapest bargain devices or as the background cores for better chips.

"This one's an actual product the company plans to sell from July for the lace-knotting price of $5,999."

You'd hope that there's nobody with enough excess of money over sense to buy one. And you know you'd be wrong.

NBA 2k23 is on Steam, and people have definitely spent more than $6k on actual sneakers.

    Transbuds

"The earbuds include a proprietary chip hidden in their USB-C adapter, which hooks into the API for Google's enterprise grade cloudy translation service and pipes real-time conversation translation into users' ears."

Oh, dear. We all know what the name ought to be, don't we.

As it is, they'll be banned in a couple dozen US states by the end of the year.

    Squirrel!

"Looking left or right took a virtual vehicle in the appropriate direction."

By appropriate does that mean it knows what you are looking at? When I see a pedestrian that doesn't mean I want the vehicle to move towards it. Does it drive in a circle when the driver spends all their time looking at their dash-mounted phone?

That actually sounds like a good idea.

    Weird looking computers

By an odd coincidence, last night I came across some videos on Youtube shown "weird" computer designs over the decades.

flatpack cases = big box of razor blades?

In my experience computer cases come with tons of sharp edges. Will these flatpack cases be any different?

Some of the pieces in the picture look like large cheese graters. Will they come with a pair of chain mail gloves for you to wear during assembly/disassembly?

    The bike desk

While I see the decent idea behind the pedal while you work, some crazy boss will see it as "free electricity"! And maybe start charging the peons if they don't generate a surplus....

    images

would have been nice to have just had a few basic image links

Too many of those links were blocked (e.g. instagram - all meta stuff is ) or to websites that were useless with my default for sites I have never visited - i.e. of js enabled on sites not in my "approved list" & I'm not going to tweak JS settings for various sites just for a look at a case mod
