back to article Microsoft, Fortra are this fed up with cyber-gangs abusing Cobalt Strike

Microsoft and Fortra are taking legal and technical actions to thwart cyber-criminals from using the latter company's Cobalt Strike software to distribute malware. what do they expect to gain?

So they are making the use of X illegal to use in the act of a crime, and they expect that will deter criminals?

This is as laughable as every preceding waste of ink law that tell criminals it's illegal to use X during a crime.

But, all the MS executives can now "feel good" they did something, lol

Oh I read it, I went reread just incase I missed something, nope. You think I missed the take down notice, or the allowed to interrupt attacks play, no. The software is in the wild, forever. Just more from Pandoras box. But we got hope, lol.

I tried to find the part where they're doing something effective, or at least with the appearance of being effective, but it seems like they're not even going to shut down or stop anything. They're going to ask some people to hide a few of the more obvious copies of this software that are available on the internet and ... nothing.

Do these people think they got rid of Napster, too?

I bet the lawyers are well fed though.

A more serious application of US RICO might ask when seizing a domain why the owner of the infringing domain can never be traced.

    Crimes of the state

The District judge is both Ignorant and Arrogant. Next to the cyber criminals is a Bank that is using the same connection points. Next to that is a Healthcare facility, and Government services all of which can be using those same connections. Declaration of war is reserved for the Legislative Branch of the U.S. Government. Waging war is reserved for the Executive Branch of the U.S. Government and court (Judicial Branch) has no say in the issue. It IS an act of war on another nation.

That Judge along with employees at Microsoft and Forta may be subject to arrest as well as extradition for Treason and war crimes. Their actions only invite a military response so when a cruise missile hits the court house, and Microsoft and Forta offices it will be well within the right of the country that launched them.
