back to article HPE lobs scale-out storage services into GreenLake subscription vehicle

HPE is adding storage services to its cloud-like GreenLake subscription-based tech platform, powered by a disaggregated hardware architecture that it says is built to scale up to exabyte capacities if required. The file, block, disaster recovery, and backup and recovery services HPE is making available via GreenLake are …

    conflicting stories

This story claims the block storage is based on Nimble, but an article linked to on El reg's home page says the block storage in Alletra MP is based on 3PAR

maybe both nimble and 3par will be used in Alletra MP, I don't know either way just not common for there to be seemingly conflicting things on the front page.

      Dude, It's HPE

They probably don't know what the actual block storage is.

Doesn't matter anyway, to them...It's all about the ultimate vendor lock in that is "Greenlake".

Thanks for the link though - the tie in with VAST makes it sound like the dysfunctional "Meet in the channel" with Qumulo has run it's course if HPE is using the competition for the file system...

        Re: conflicting stories

The article reads like it is 3Par / Primera / Alletra 9000 SW with Nimble de-dupe grafted in.

I'm struggling to see what's remotely special about this new offering. It can do block or file but not both. Great you can deploy it as one and then change the "personality" at a later date but is anyone ever going to do that? And greenlake seems to be the answer, what's the question as usual with HPE. VAST is nice tech but why wouldn't I just get it straight from them?
