back to article IBM teases AI-infused hybrid cloudy upgrade to z/OS - Bingo!

IBM has teased a Q3 2023 release for a major upgrade to its z/OS mainframe operating environment. "IBM intends for z/OS Version 3 to be the basis for an AI-infused, hybrid cloud operating system, and z/OS 3.1 will be the first release in that journey" states a preview announcement published on February 28. The release will …

You're not kidding about the buzzwords!

    "...AI infused into the OS..."

    "...leverage data insights..."

    "...cloud-native..."

    "...containerized..."

    "...quantum-safe encryption..."

Sadly, it still falls short of being a viable modern product, because... it doesn't include blockchain, and even worse, IBM insist on selling it as a boring physical product rather than in NFT collectible form.

Aren't blockchains and NFTs obsolete technologies from the 2022s?

Quite. If evidence were needed that blockchain's time has gone it's right there in that sentence.

Maybe they should sell more collectible tat, but I like the more tangible variety; e.g. I have a necklace whose pendant is a 308X TCM (obviously a very mini version! A real one would probably cripple me). And add some flashing lights to their actual mainframe because the Z series looks more like a haute something-or-other wardrobe for architectural fashion victims.

Indeed. Write me an article when it starts posting selfies of itself doing dances and makeup "hacks", then I'll take notice.

"infused into the operating system using intelligent automation and accelerated inferencing at scale to extract and leverage valuable data insights"

I think we're going to need some mainframe computing power to leverage valuable insights into whatever they are saying. I'm hazarding a guess that the FDIV bug has not been addressed yet, leading to infused data insights.

That's their business plan: Get you to buy the mianframes to decode the buzzword bingo marketing speech, then decode it, and find out you've paid a huge amount of money for the same product they were selling before.
