General purpose
The chips include AVX for vRAN instructions designed to accelerate signal processing functions in telco applications.
It's interesting that Intel does not look into accelerating general purpose operations to the level so that it would match the acceleration done specifically for telco applications.
Don't know what is the share of telco customers when it comes to buying Intel CPUs, but would it be big enough to warrant setting aside space in the wafer just for them?
It's like giving a middle finger to customers with different needs. No acceleration for you!
