back to article Testing of Starlink internet under way in Antarctica

Starlink began testing its satellite internet access at McMurdo Station in Antarctica this week to the benefit of the area's researchers. Starlink is now on all seven continents! In such a remote location like Antarctica, this capability is enabled by Starlink's space laser network https://t.co/c9HX0xrX0u — SpaceX (@SpaceX) …

Deep down, everyone knows what will happen...

Pornhub usage in Antarctica will rise like an Orca hunting seals on ice shelfs!

Can you blame them with only those ugly duckling females around them?

Or Antarctica only a leopard seal rising to catch a penguin.

Not only penguins, I once had to scurry back to safer ice when a leopard seal decided I was a lunchtime candidate and tried to tip over the ice-floe I was standing on.

    Meh

    still lots of clear sky

Goto https://sky.rogue.space/ click on "Groups" select "Starlink" and then spin the planet with your clicked mouse and zoom in and out by spinning your mouse wheel and look at the current satellite coverage over the Arctic and Antarctic, McMurdo Station's Internet may end up being a little bit intermittent (at least until a few more are launched).

On the flip side the best view of the stars is still at the poles (For now at least).

The most important aspect is: lasers in frickin' space

Yet this avenue was left unexplored. El Reg is slipping.

    My reaction

"Wow! I used to work in the building and would have given a left nut for even shared Starlink capacity"

How many left nuts do you have?

Now they have this, I'd have thought plans for the cable would be completely on ice.

    McMurdo could have high speed

But they don't have the funding to pay for it.

One of my regrets is not going to McMurdo to help comission their first satellite link when I had the chance (sometime lasl century.)

Let me know when Starlink covers the South Pole and gives them continuous service.
