We saw how American democracy and cooperation works. Huawei was considered not insecure in the UK. Then the USA came along and said "if you don't cancel Huawei there will be trouble."

I haven't promoted anyone. I'm just pointing out where the despotism as you put it really is.

While I have some affection for some things that the USA supposedly stands for (and likes to lecture the world that it stands for), what it actually is and what it puts into practice is quite different.

I would prefer that in The Reg to keep to technical discussions. Huawei was audited by HM Gov and was said to have no back doors. Then along comes the USA. You'd better get with the program, footrests. Or else. So for non-technical reasons a technology leader has been excluded from here. To suit the USA. Freedom? It's freedom to do what the USA tells us.

It is how the world works, there has always been a powerful entity that influences the rest of the world in its own interests. It is currently the USA that practices domination that is the modern form of Empire in all but name. I think it’s called hegemony now to make it slightly more acceptable. In a century or so it will be another part of the world, probably Somewhere in Asia. 200 years ago, European nations vied with each other for the same end. When was the world ever not like that? Flawed humans, if the Tomorrow People are really among us, let them go forth and outbreed us.

At first the UK's NCSC was specific that Huawei kit posed no significant threat under the circumstances in which it was then used. When circumstances changed (the Chinese government clamping down on certain operational freedoms of its "free" enterprises), so too did the NCSC's assessment of the risk. But feel free to wrap the facts in your own garbage interpretation to try and hide what cannot be hidden. Despotism requires despots, not regular changes of leadership every few years.

Free Market is the freedom to control the market, if we can't control it then we'll break it. When Huawei became the world leader in some categories of telecoms equipment they have sanctions slapped on them. When TikTok became the first China owned net property to achieve widespread international usage it had sanctions slapped on them. As the China's economy moves ever closer to eclipsing the US' more and more sanctions are thrown at it.

And as everyone here knows (fool or not) the only reason for the ban on Huawei's equipment is that having them installed will make the Five Eyes ability to spy on their own citizens more difficult.
