back to article Apple co-founder Steve Jobs memorialized with online archive of emails, guff

At CodeCon 2022 on Wednesday, Apple CEO Tim Cook, former Apple chief design officer Jony Ive, and billionaire business executive Laurene Powell Jobs launched the Steve Jobs Archive, an online repository to honor the legacy of Apple's co-founder and CEO for many years. "Steve’s legacy lives on in the company we are and the …

    Somewhat of a myth...

...Steve Jobs only rejected traditional treatment once his cancer was terminal. He had cancer a couple of times if you remember...

This doesn't appear to be true, whether it affected Jobs lifespan is another matter.

    Excuses galore

Now it's enough for a [former] "celebrity", without apologising, to state [s]he was [borderline] bipolar instead of acknowledging that [s]he was just an a**hole.

    I assume it will omit

all the times he was an arsehole? Which was quite a lot according to his book.

Elon Musk told GQ, "The one time I met Steve Jobs, he was kind of a jerk."

Takes one to know one, I see.

So using that logic I am a jerk - because I know you are, and you are because you know Elon is, and Elon is because he knows Steve is.

Who did Steve need to know?

Luckily I think it only takes six to know eight, so the chain attenuates.

I'm glad that he did the good things that he did for the industry. He shook it up and changed its direction for the better more than once. I'm even more glad that I never worked with or for him. It must have been like living on the slopes of a volcano.

It's because of what he did to the industry that I will never buy an Apple device!

What did he do? Litigate rather than innovate.

I dislike Apple and I, even more, dislike Steve Jobs but I'll give you that. When Apple was on brink of collapse and he came back. He got rid of all the stupid names like (making these up as can't remember) Apple IC2.4, Apple IC2.6, Apple IC 3, Apple Dome 1.6 for all their PC builds that were coming or already out. And just simplified it all which made a lot more sense.

I remember reading an article here at some point with John Carmack talking about Steve Jobs and it was enlightening about what an asshole that guy could be even outside working hours

    That’s an interesting article…

…but I suspect it won’t increase the chances of Apple responding when you ask them for a comment.

Have a cold one, it’s Friday.

Yeah, with the recent style change and some of the Apple related articles, I was beginning to get the impression that El Reg was heading a little more mainstream and possibly attempting to get back into Apples good ibooks. I guess not :-)

The word you seem to be trying to avoid is 'death'.

You seem happy enough to refer to him as an asshole or jerk but you pussyfoot around the concept which is the great leveller.
