back to article Microsoft freshens up its in-house container Linux, CBL-Mariner

Microsoft has released the March-2022 update for CBL-Mariner, but the version number hasn't budged from 1.0. Yes, the Windows giant has had its own Linux distro since September 2020, but don't get too excited. "Microsoft has released... its own Linux distro... which is of course just what you want..."

    Are you doubling down on the sarcasm?

    Small operating systems are nothing new, they're all over the place for many reasons. Microsoft peddling a Linux distro is akin to the fox passing out chicken feed.

    WTF?

    Microsoft freshens up...Linux, CBL-Mariner

    This is good news for Windows users who are insecure ditching Windows. As for me, not so much.

    Some things never change though.

    Had this running already, so decided to update it a day or so ago. And, as some might say "as expected", the patching of one of the RPMs failed:

    <snip>

    Running transaction

    Preparing : 1/1

    Running scriptlet: selinux-policy-2.20210203-1.cm1.noarch 1/1

    touch: cannot touch '/etc/selinux/targeted/.rebuild': No such file or directory

    error: %prein(selinux-policy-2.20210203-1.cm1.noarch) scriptlet failed, exit status 1

    <snip>

    Somewhere in the upgrade it decided to delete a directory (targeted) and not re-create it....

    Easy enough to fix, but Microsoft, really? Did you not test this?
