    ... a huge external dependency?

    BTW, AppImage exists, so does Docker, so does a lot of other VM like things.

    I'm not sure how you can spend your time better than setting up your developing environment to know exactly how things are working, but that could just be me. Also, this isn't a very hard or repetitious process so... (it's kind of like putting batteries in your mouse/keyboard).

      We have become a people who want everything now, if not yesterday.

      Setting up your own development environment or, for that matter, your overall test and production environments, is the best way to understand them.

      ElReg commenters argue for in house talent over outsourcing, This is just outsourcing your development environment to GitHub.

    The advantage is that you spot issues in your onboarding/dev setup documentation instantly - but breaking the build means nobody can do any work at all...

    Taking five minutes for anyone to start work is still a long time.

    The big question is when that hit happens. Every time you switch branches would make it basically unusable.
