back to article China orders web operators to spring clean its entire internet

The Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) has shared its spring-cleaning plans with the world – and suggested it's time to make the Middle Kingdom's web sites sparkle with wholesome content. The Admin's edict lists many net nasties that it wants removed. But there's not much new on the list – most of the items have already …

    Ban naughtiness?

Good luck with that, what with it being Human nature to do the very things we're not supposed to do *because* they are forbidden.

You know, like reading books about Winney the Pooh, Tianamin Square, or those pesky Human Rights?

Perhaps it's a play to address the massive overpopulation issue.

        Re: Ban naughtiness?

China does have a massive population issue right now, but it's not because of too many people, it's because of too few children. Their society is aging, and there will not be enough young people to fill the gaps in their economy left by retirement and deaths.

It's been ingrained into 2-3 generations of CCP society that it's appropriate to only have one child, and the costs of raising even that child are now such that most couples can't, or don't want to, afford to have more. The CCP has been offering financial incentives for couples to have more kids, but people aren't biting. It's maybe only a matter of time before the CCP starts using the stick instead, and starts punishing people for not getting married and having more kids.

Many countries make up this population gap with immigration, but the Chinese culture fostered by the CCP is highly xenophobic and hostile to foreigners right now, so that's not likely to happen any time soon, and likely never in the quantities needed anyway.

This tends to drive emigration and deflation. China's likely to suffer a lost generation like Japan did (but they're also unlikely to have economic ruination, just have things stop expanding at dizzying paces)

Where is China getting this playbook from, North Korea?

      playbook

More likely from the UK Home Office.

No, the Home Office never leads, only follows.

nah, NK is china's testing ground for how far they can abuse people while not killing so many that services stop.

China's playbook is public. World domination through information, financial control, and elimination of opposition at every level.

    Why repeat ?

Well that's probably because just saying things once rarely has the desired effect when you are talking to the masses. Otherwise we wouldn't need police, because we'd just tell people to be nice and obey the law, job done.

It doesn't really work like that.

In China, anything's legal... as long as you don't get caught.

Knockoffs and IP theft is something they learned from the USA and UK - pretty much every industrialising society passes through this stage

So is this why they changed the ending of Fight Club? Just a bit of Spring Cleaning? Didnt want anyone having to clean up the digital mess from all of those buildings falling down?

For those that arent aware, Fight Club just got a new release in China, it cuts away before the ending to declare that the Police intervened, prevented the plot before it could be activated, everyone went to prison, and Tyler Durdan ended up in a lunatic asylum. THE END. The Police in a Police state always win after all...

But in 1984 the Party did use pornography to keep the proles quiet. But probably because it was written by an Englishman.

    China?

Really? Haven't your notice ANYTHING going on in the rest of the world recently? You have to point your finger at China for censorship?

Others being at the same bad stuff does not give China an excuse. Yes call out Russian, UK, USA, etc, for their failings but if the article is about China then it is fair to call them out as well.

True, there are some positive aspects to the goals of such a "web clean-up" but given the oppressive nature of the CCP we know it is more about control than happiness for the good citizens of China.

It wasn't a leak, as there is no free press in CCP China. The CCP has an office in, and editorial control over, all media in mainland China. If the Chinese media reported on it, then the CCP wanted it reported on.

If another branch of the CCP now wants it not reported on, it's probably because the initial reports didn't garner the positive reaction they expected, and the CCP now wants to pretend like it never happened.

    War is coming......

I honestly thought i would make it completely thru my life without having to live thru a full war.

but is seems some factions are determined to have the biggie , another reason for all this work to get paperless money.
