I cut my teeth on a TRS-80 Model I, Level I at a local Radio Shack store with a Z-80 CPU running a whopping 4MHz, if I recall correctly. As even a register add took 3 clock cycles (if memory serves correctly), it was not a speedy beast, putting out a mere MIP of 8-bit goodness.
