back to article When ERP migrations go bad: Games Workshop says project issues are delaying refresh of 'dated' online store

Games Workshop, the UK's fantasy model maker and table-top wargames retailer, has been forced to stall the development of a new online shopping system because of delays to its ERP project. In its annual report [PDF], the company said that while online sales were up 70 per cent compared to the same period last year, more than …

    "The early concepts look amazing"

Executives will pay for pretty but not for resilience.

My son wanted to get into GW WH40K but we worked out drugs is cheaper.

I can believe it. Other table top games are a lot cheaper, but also WH40K was seriously unbalanced.

40K and Warhammer went through a phase of being comparably priced to other miniatures. That period ended with the launch of Age of Sigmar and they have gone back to prices through the roof.

Perhaps, un-coincidentally, that also happens to be the last time I bought anything off them.

As expensive as it is, it is very cool. I just wish it could be cool and vaguely-pocket-money-priced. We got the starter set which had 5 Ultramarines and 5 of the plague fellows and have had plenty of fun with that.

I have Adeptus Titanicus and Space Marine (and some other 90s GW) nestling in the loft. Now we need to find a way to play without his little sister hulk-smashing everything!

Good luck with that, the original artists were bought out and the show paywalled for GWs streaming service, Warhammer+. No doubt you'll find reuploads on YT but they'll no doubt be taken down in short order.

I've found if you don't mind putting in the effort, you can bulk buy old armies off eBay and strip the paint. Might save you some money.

    FAIL

    BOFH

Maybe a BOFH decided he didn't like the bullshit GW are pulling with community creators who have attracted newcomers to their games. Emperor TTS having to be put on hiatus because the creator can't afford the risk of being sued really sucks.

      Re: BOFH

The site that hadn't been updated for ages that the creator pulled because he has family commitments & "Wasn't sure" if the IP crackdown would affect him? That TTS?

        Re: BOFH

It in the last few years went a long time between releases, sure, but that doesn't mean it wasn't still an ongoing project. And the family was a reason for not continuing, as he needed to pay the bills for his family and he can't do that fighting lawsuits.

To late the committee saw the web page interface and signed up, got another year before canned (Unless they delay it again)

    I mean, its GW

Can't they just steal the new site from somebody?

Has anyone ever heard of an ERP migration...

...that finished on time, on budget and on scope?

Or indeed an ERP migration that was actually cheaper than just buying a new system, and hiring people to type the old data into it by hand.
