    Between now and 2025?

Isn't that a rather short outlook for a society which famously considers hundreds of years as mid-term?

I suspect, for all their faults, manglement in China are closer to reality than their western equivalents. By 2025 much is likely to have changed. Say, locally made processors of many kinds, possibly better computer languages for AI, energy generating systems. I leave energy storage out because it is a lot harder than most pundits realise. Who knows, they may get their fusion projects working, which would change engineering trade and licensing somewhat. However, the technical kudos could engender overconfidence. The 20th century is a litany of disaster due to that. Or, the paranoid should ask, "What do they know we do not"

You almost hit the proverbial nail slap bang dead centre square on its head with the suspicions you boldly shared .....

I suspect, for all their faults, manglement in China are closer to reality than their western equivalents. By 2025 much is likely to have changed.

With the Chinese premiering and pioneering in communicating quantum entanglement, everything is certain to be changed by 2025 with nothing enabled to progress and proceed further unhindered and unchallenged into the future under present wayward dastardly Earthly direction.

Now that is not to say that China and her friends will necessarily be recognised globally as leading anything particularly Great Game changing as developments discovered and uncovered or inventions built and leaked are followed, but the West and her faltering wannabe warrior like allies will be abandoned and left behind in the ruins of the past they created for their present whilst the futures for tomorrow are created and enjoyed elsewhere ..... in a not too distant alien land with foreign base stations ..... if they fail to adopt and adapt to changed universal realities experimenting with experiences in the Fields of Perfecting Provision Supplying Immaculate Source with multiple safe and secure levels and degrees of Virtually Augmented Metadata Physical Engagement.

:-) Four years is absolutely ages in some spaces and places where time plays no great nor grandiose part in all that matters.

You're either destined to be fully in and highly proactive and effective in a certainly extremely novel and noble enabling field, or fated to be kept on the outside of live events planning and ignorant of leading future hoops and loops which renders one at best just a crazy ineffective reactionary spectator in worlds of colossal opportunity and almighty stealthy reward.

China makes bad decisions all the time. Criticism of those decisions lands you in jail. This results in all government decisions being based on lies. The only question is how long it will take for the system to collapse.

Let's hope it is quickly as western democracies are already talking about filtering the Internet so they are also on the slippery slope of trying to control what their citizens see.

Let the fall of the Communist Chinese government be their warning.

China needs better "public opinion propaganda"

    The word "propaganda" is unfortunate.

Propaganda means fake news, falsehoods erected into fact, and brainwashing of the public so everyone believes it.

China does not need better propaganda, no one does.

China, and every other country, needs journalists that can tell the actual truth without fear of reprisal.

If your news is filled with truth, you don't need propaganda.

Can't see that happening any time ever. The people in power always benefit from the status quo.

For instance, the current set of muppets in power in the UK are there because they gulled about half the population into thinking Brexit would make their lives better. Why would people who benefit mightily from stupidity want to fix stupidity?

There is plenty of incorrect information put into the media by biased people and organizations, but three things apply to it that don't apply in dictatorships:

        1. It is done on multiple sides by individuals and small groups, not on one specific side by everybody.

        2. It can be contradicted and disproved without someone getting put in prison.

        3. There are people who really do keep to journalistic ethics and can be trusted. You just have to find them and have several options in case you find one of your sources less reliable than you thought.

Your false equivalence is not appreciated.

    4. veti Silver badge

Re: China needs better "public opinion propaganda"

Incorrect. Propaganda means influencing people through psychological manipulation. It doesn't necessarily involve falsehood or brainwashing. The most successful propaganda may involve nothing but absolute truth, but presented in a controlled context, manner and timing.

I remember years ago watching Riefenstahl's 'Triumph of the Will', one of the most famous works of Nazi propaganda. All it shows is footage of a political rally, nothing more. It's incontestably true, yet powerful all the same.

Photos (undoctored), firsthand first-person accounts of events, completely straightforward reporting - all can be and routinely are used for propaganda purposes. For instance, footage of a mother whale trying to nurse her dead calf - that's propaganda. A photo of a dead child. The firsthand account of a victim of Islamic State. Any media with a strong emotional impact qualifies.

Re: China needs better "public opinion propaganda"

"Propaganda means influencing people through psychological manipulation." That is just one interpretation.

"Psychological manipulation is a type of social influence that aims to change the behavior or perception of others through indirect, deceptive, or underhanded tactics"

"Propaganda, dissemination of information—facts, arguments, rumours, half-truths, or lies—to influence public opinion."

"Propaganda is communication that is primarily used to influence an audience and further an agenda, which may not be objective and may be selectively presenting facts to encourage a particular synthesis or perception, or using loaded language to produce an emotional rather than a rational response to the information that is being presented.[1] Propaganda is often associated with material which is prepared by governments, but activist groups, companies, religious organizations, the media, and individuals also produce propaganda."

Having been on the receiving end of an out of control Multinational I would think China is going to be rather more interested in maintaining control of it's companies than we are in the west.

The first truly spectacular example of what happens when a multinational really goes out of control was the East India Company, which ended up owning it's own Army and Navy, and through those it's own Empire and foreign policy (see the opium war where the EIC successfully dragged the UK PLC into a war against China pretty much for the sole benefit of the EIC)

    1. Irony Deficient Silver badge

      out of control multinationals

I’d argue that the UK’s East India Company (hereafter “EIC”) was the second such example, with the Netherlands’ East India Company (hereafter “VOC”) being the first. The EIC was restructured in the 1650s to more closely parallel the VOC structure, and Charles II. was the one who granted the EIC

the right to acquire territory, coin money, command fortresses and troops, form alliances, make war and peace, and exercise both civil and criminal jurisdiction

(to quote the 1911 Encyclopædia Britannica). Thus, “out of control” should not be interpreted as “uncontrollable”, but rather as “overly powerful”. The competition between the EIC and the VOC was a large factor in the four Anglo-Dutch wars of the 17th and 18th centuries.

Special Force Operations with MAB 5 Abilities and Utilities. Mk Ultra Type Sp00Key Stuff

If you want to combat propagandists effectively and quickly, arm military leaders with NEUKlearer AWEsome Weapons and HyperRadioProACTive IT Systems which reveal the truth to them about the enemies they may be aiding and abetting, for such effortlessly rewards them handsomely with an expanding grateful support ...... which has no finite bounds ........ and one practically immediately discovers who and/or what is opposed to such news with novel views being expressed and engaged with.

Apparently, although you may have great difficulty in anyone at all confirming it .... MAB 5 is a small military unit that specialises in the provision of novel and ground-breaking science and technology prototypes for operational requirements. As a military unit it is irregular and unrecognisable. ....... and Computer Network Operations (CNO) Exploits are its Game/Prey.

Be better than just good at that sort of thing, and one isn't just virtually unbeatable and practically almighty, one is also the best friend that anyone could have and the worst enemy that can be imagined if one is in and responsible for any form of corrupt competition and wilful opposition. Such make the correct path to choose a no-brainer simply designed so that even a retarded simpleton or barbaric neanderthal can understand and make the right choice ergo those who and/or that which fails to choose correctly and process the information for intelligence properly be an ignorant and crazily stupid enemy to be left behind in the present for others from the future to deal and put out of their misery.
