    WTF?

    Elephant In The Room

"It [Cloudstar] offers remote virtual desktops, cloud-hosted software and storage, and IT security to businesses in the Americas working in real estate, finance, insurance, and petrochemicals."

"..it was the victim of a highly sophisticated ransomware attack" [1]

Unless it really was a "highly sophisticated" attack [2] they can scrub IT security from their claims.

And their seems-to-be solution...? Pay the ransom. ("Negotiations with the threat actor are ongoing.")

Way to lead by example guys! Keep up the good work! /s

I wonder if their cyber insurance is provided by one of their lucky customers... Who now can't pay up as they don't have any systems LMFAO

[1] Never heard that before. Nature of the attack: open port; phishing; Print Spoiler? Answers on a postcard!

[2] If it was, they may be forgiven.

      Re: Elephant In The Room

Attacks are always described as "highly sophisticated". I'm waiting for someone to be honest and say "we screwed up and our systems were hit by a bunch of opportunistic, drive-by attackers". I think I'll be waiting for a very long time!

    FAIL

It offers remote virtual desktops, cloud-hosted software and storage, and IT security

    Woops.

It said it is currently negotiating with the crooks that infected its computers.

That's a really bad idea, and tells a lot about Cloudstar's capacity to restore its backups. Has is any?

"That's a really bad idea" - totally agree.

I'm glad underwriters seem to be backing off from offering ransom payment coverage, before legislation was imposed on them.
