back to article Women techs fume, offer crowdsourced fixes as Michelle Obama's online keynote crashes

Attendees at this week's Women In Technology Online Festival were trying to watch keynote speaker Michelle Obama when the stream crashed within seconds of starting, leaving many unable to see the former US First Lady at all. Or they could have just zoom, webex, or any other responsible platform. How much did random unheard of conferencing company pay to show up at the table?

It was that geezer Terry from down the pub armed with a load of string and several baked bean cans.

        Baked bean cans

Unfortunately, the cans were still full of beans.

Mine’s the one with the opener in the pocket.

The same Zoom that lied about its end-to-end encryption then doubled-down on the lie when caught, built in FBI backdoors before public outcry forced an un-do, bypassed browser security, fobbed off customer information to Facebook, and so on? That "responsible" Zoom?

    "Unforeseen server conditions"

So unforeseen that they didn't foresee the need for any resilience.

Did no one think "the live stream is failing. Let's record it."

    That bus is still rolling

"We're performing a full investigation with our network provider and other partners to determine why the issue was not caught during quality assurance tests."

The wheels on the bus go round and round...

And the woman cries out 'why are you not listening to me'!

    She doesn't need the money...

So why speak to an audience who have to pay to listen?

Why not spread the wisdom publicly and for free?

I'm sure she has some interesting things to say.

I'm not being facetious, she's an intelligent and well educated woman.

Maybe she'd use the money for good causes, who knows?

But one good cause is using your wisdom and high profile to help people without asking for money.

That keynote could be delivered for free to everyone, the workload for her is the same as the fee paying version and I'm sure it would be easy to drum up some publicity to get the message out.

If it were me in that position I'd help everyone I could without the paywall.

I wouldn't worry too much about the availability of said keynote, someone will screen record the entire thing from one of the two repeated catch-ups and upload to the video distribution platform of their choice

What do they think was missed?

Any sentient being who has wasted time reading Mooch's earlier writings realizes the server gods did them a favor.
