back to article Biden cancels Trump's bans on TikTok, WeChat, other Chinese apps

The White House on Tuesday revoked stalled Trump-era orders that sought to ban social media apps TikTok, WeChat, and others in the United States as national security threats. In place of those orders, the Biden administration has expanded another Trump-era Executive Order focused on communications and supply chain security. …

Who Knew? Seems That No Smart Idiot in Trump's Domain . . .

has children who seem to find a way around such impediments, just as adults do.

The leaders in InterNet suppression, the Chinese government, could have told them that, since the electronic wall built around that country more resembles Swiss cheese with large holes in it.

I travel to China regularly and always take a SatPhone (antennae removed) with me - something BeiJing cannot stop working. Another hole.

    Trump and his cancel culture

Yeh, TikToks US users trolled him, and he tried to cancel them, by cancelling tiktok.

    Republican's and their Cancel Culture.

At least they weren't trying to cancel votes, or cancel freedoms, or cancel democracy or cancel lives there.... just cancel free political speech.

And ironically, unlike Facebook and Twitter banning Trump, if he really did try to shut down TikTok because he was pissed it is mostly used by young people who mostly hate him and embarrassed him at his Oklahoma rally, it actually WOULD be a first amendment issue!

Might this mean that in the US, Facebook would finally be coerced to give two figs about privacy and data security instead of harvesting its victim^Wusers for every scrap of personal information and selling it to the highest bidder?

Seems like the ideal environment for a 'foreign adversary' to tap into the brain space of one's citizens. E.g. with Russia's 2016 & 2020 influencing of public opinion in the US prior to the presidential elections. According to the listed items, this would make FB a prime threat to the US, whereas TikTok, WeChat and others seem rather innocent in comparison.

Perhaps TikTok would add a further irony be allowing Trump to have an account.
