At least they weren't trying to cancel votes, or cancel freedoms, or cancel democracy or cancel lives there.... just cancel free political speech.
And ironically, unlike Facebook and Twitter banning Trump, if he really did try to shut down TikTok because he was pissed it is mostly used by young people who mostly hate him and embarrassed him at his Oklahoma rally, it actually WOULD be a first amendment issue!
Might this mean that in the US, Facebook would finally be coerced to give two figs about privacy and data security instead of harvesting its victim^Wusers for every scrap of personal information and selling it to the highest bidder?
Seems like the ideal environment for a 'foreign adversary' to tap into the brain space of one's citizens. E.g. with Russia's 2016 & 2020 influencing of public opinion in the US prior to the presidential elections. According to the listed items, this would make FB a prime threat to the US, whereas TikTok, WeChat and others seem rather innocent in comparison.
