According to Downdetector.com, outage reports jumped from a typical baseline of around a dozen or two to over 3,500 for Facebook, over 26,000 for WhatsApp, and over 124,000 for Instagram around this time period

I read that as outrage reports and wondered how only a dozen or two could be outraged at those three sites. Given how much all Facepalm products are in the news for online bullying that must be a baseline of 100s of thousands a day. When I read a bit more of the story I realised they had a server problem, and wondered how I could generate a gladness report.

      Sorry.

      No you’re not.

I think you should sit in the corner and reflect on what you’ve done.

3,500 reports on Facebook = A power cut on the Isle of Wight.

These aren't big numbers for these services, even if only a small % report them.

Maybe the NSA slammed one of their back doors too hard.

    Don't mess with the internet.

I just went on line with Facebook. Seems normal. So it might the name servers as I choose my own to avoid Google. The internet was designed to get round these things and messing with the internet structure is bad. I was using German name servers until some one set fire to the data centre and nobbled it.

So scoff if you need to or investigate if you have to. It will give you a better insight.

    Why is it always "some"

Whenever and wherever there is an outage, the official answer is "some" !

Some of our customers, some of our servers, some of our network lines, some some some some some.

Can someone put a stop this most brazen of all corporate lies of "some" ?

Some = Thousands (or millions), yet its always some.

    WTF ?

Re: Why is it always "some"

Technicaly, they are right. As per Webster some = being an unknown, undetermined, or unspecified unit or thing. But hey, I'm not a native Egnlish speaker, what do I know.

Now, before the downvote brigade comes, I totally agree with you, corporate tend to use some as meaning 'a small part of'.

Re: Why is it always "some"

Well, they could get away with saying 'a few'.

If you're a chicken farmer (which sort-of fits) 'a few' is a multiple of 300.

P.S. I agree with you though about farce arse etc.

It just means "less than all".
