      Oh no! Really? Whoever valued GitLab at $2.7Bn 18 months ago must really have egg on their face. Maybe it was a rounding error?

    Every time the CCP complains about foreign investment controls in other countries...

    ... it's worth remembering how high the wall is for foreign companies to operate in China without forced IP transfers or JVs with state-owned enterprises.

      How high the wall is now. Used to be no problem to go into China with your tech. Then... you found out your tech had taken up residence and you were free to leave China now thank you we don't need you anymore.

      Why do companies keep making the mistake of thinking that the Chinese market is like markets elsewhere? You might think it's long term thinking of the CCP, or like me that it's short term thinking, but China's intent is to benefit China, and no one else.

        Or just long memories? You can understand some of the attitude after the whole opium thing; they clearly don't feel obliged to play 'fair' by current standards, at least.

      Indeed I once went down a rabbithole on wikipedia about VW in China.

      They have 2 separate JVs with models that compete against each other.

    They force their customers to move to Jihu

    This is clearly a political move because they force their customers based in PRC and Hong Kong to move to Jihu's infrastructure no matter what you want.
