back to article Breaking? Microsoft pushes 'News and Interests' with first Windows 10 Insiders build of the year

Demonstrating impeccable timing, Microsoft has updated the Dev Channel Windows 10 Insider build with a taskbar widget showing news updates. Build 21286, which is going out to all Dev Channel Windows Insiders and therefore shunting everyone onto the RS_PRERELEASE branch as promised, is the first in a while to feature a …

It wouldn't be a Windows Insider release without some of the A/B testing so popular with Microsoft's army of unpaid testers

    We seek them here,

    We seek them there,

    You won't find them here

    But what's this?

An update from Redmond is on its way

That will not make my day

    Dear Redmond

Can you please split Windows into two, entirely separate installs:

    1) Operating System pure and simple and

    2) Everything else - preferably including Craptana, Bung, Cancer Crush, Orifice 219 invitation and crap like this latest piece of bloatware.

After all if this stuff really IS that oh, no desirable, people will be clamouring to down load it.

    They will, won't they?

Well, I won't, but everyone else will.

    Won't they?

Al;l these new "add-ons" being baked into the default install is going to eventually lead to more anti-trust situations. MS, like Apple, Facebook et al are taking things others have produced as 3rd party add-ons, often commercial offerings, and are effectively killing the market by baking their own offerings into the OS/App. Monopoly anyone?

No thanks. It takes too long and I always end up being the boot. How about Mille Bornes instead?

    New & Interests?

Please, NO. The world is such a shit show, and the reporting on it so sensationalised (and often distorted), that I'd rather look it up myself when I feel a real need to find out what's going on.

The last thing I want is an automatic feed of depressing crap when I switch my machine on.

The only exception I'd accept would be news of an imminent threat of alien invasion. Anything else can wait.

Why the hell do you need a "news and interest" thingy that is running all the time?

It is just like all the other shite that is currently there with crap weather, news, films and stuff I don't want or have any interest in.

I expect that Edge will also go and shove itself back into the default or everything again as well.

"News and Interests" tailored to your "likes" an MS sees it based on all the tracking info they are grabbing. More "news bubbles" like FarceBook et al. Of course, soon those "News and Interests" will eventually include new products you might like too.

"a tweak to the Windows Subsystem for Linux to allow the running of a specified Linux command on startup." Huh? like a command in a .bashrc or .bash_profile file?
