"download its seriously weighty desktop client"

And just how weighty is that ?

My Lotus Notes installation is a hair under 13GB - and that's just the program, the data is in another folder.

Diablo III weighs in at 16GB. My Lord of the Rings Online install tops 27GB.

So how weighty is this Tableau application ?

My 2020.3 Tableau program folder is just shy of 2GB, so not that weighty in the grand scheme of things. Why, it could fit on a DVD with no trouble!

    1. Replace old feature-rich desktop application with new minimum-viable cloud application

    2. Now you have a new cool thing that does less than the old uncool thing.

    3. Add some of the features from the desktop application into the cloud application.

    4. Now it's even cooler, even though it does less than what you had to begin with.
