Is this part of the purpose of telemetry ?

"Your customer is doing has installed xxx so sell them Microsoft xxx-enterprise".

Lots of things to be gleaned by looking at what is installed on a machine, even more by looking at web browser logs ... Who knows what they take as the telemetry information is encrypted before being sent to Redmond and there is not a tool that the user can use to decode it.

      The users? No.

Microsoft. They get what program you are using, what version of it is it, your IP address and your Microsoft account at a minimum.

    Xbox Series S/X fail

Did they use it to predict that the new shiny Xboxes would sell out instantly and appear on eBay at grossly inflated prices then?

      Re: Xbox Series S/X fail

Somehow calling selling the entire production run a failure seems absurd.

Now the name (which resulted in people ordering the Xbox One X instead of the Xbox Series X), now that was a failure of branding.

Don't know what it has to do with the article but I'm sorry you didn't get yours.

time for a chat about licensing anomalies

Fear of licensing anomalies was enough to push some companies I've been involved in towards open source software.

Apparently a tax audit is not feared as much as a license audit.

They're quite enjoyable to carry out though - especially when the 'licence audit' is carried out with an Anton Pillor order ;) I've only done two of those in the early 1990s .... Mirror Group anyone? Some PC manufacturer called Tatung as well (they were no Einstein).

    Running a racket?

Nice CAD and other productivity software, you've installed there.

Would be a terrible shame if anything happened to it, say some feature-breaking OS update.

However, we're here to help you. With this Feature-Using-Capability-Kit and our Year-Of-Usabiltiy packages you're good to go.

Just extend your contract by this amount, and we will take care of the rest.

See you next time, it's always so nice doing business with you.

MSFT Dept of Corrections and Clarifications

In our recent media release, where we said :-

“We’ll continue to make investments in new features and capabilities for Insights to ensure our partners have access to the business intelligence they need, both now and in the future,”,

    it should have read,

We'll continue to use our customers' data to flog them even more MSFT tat than they need."

    Thank you for your understanding.
