Historically Linux would be left allone . In that time because 1: not many basic users and 2: most of the Linux users used to know how to hack back.
However. Affter manny years manny users forgot how to hack. Concider this: if more Linux users learn to hack again, the platform will be less targeted out of fear and faster development. Know how something works and allow your self to be in control. Eventually this will keep the hackers that don't care about open source away. Remember to hack, but hack rightious.
Vigilantism is against the law in most "good" countries. If one were to proceed to "hack back", one would be wise to first wargame the various scenarios wherein ones activities are noticed by various parties.
Note that the FBI shut down (hard!) the earliest proposals to engage in join hacking back. Seems like they were concerned about whom the hacking back would target...
