back to article Report on AI in UK public sector: Some transparency on how government uses it to govern us would be nice

A new report from the Committee for Standards in Public life has criticised the UK government's stance on transparency in AI governance and called for ethics to be "embedded" in the frameworks. The 74-page treatise noted that algorithms are currently being used or developed in healthcare, policing, welfare, social care and …

the government doesn't publish any centralised audit on the extent of AI use

Perhaps they should develop an AI system that will decide what government information to publish . After all, if they're just going to carry on using AI systems to judge people on things such as likelihood of being a criminal, or reoffender or benefit cheat, not caring about all the negative consequences for the people that are wrongly accused, then if the government is harmed because the AI decides to release something they want to keep covered up it's just the same tough luck.

Re: the government doesn't publish any centralised audit on the extent of AI use

I second that proposal, SVV. Let's give AI a trial as judge and jury deciding on future human interreaction with full provision of practical instruction to render maximum benefit from the quantum leap switch to a most able AI System of Universal Operation.

I wonder what a Boris J and a Dominic C would make with Effective Leverage in that Facilitative Utility?

And there's no point in them denying expertise and/or competence in the application, for whenever not able to be provided custom made in-house, everything needed is supplied freely from A.N.Others' Operating Systems Overflowing Stores.

    GIGO still matters

No system is perfect. Show me the error-free caring, sharing, sensitive, and responsive manual system and there's a conversation to be had. Note: I even left out "cost-effective"

It's probably easier to bury the mistakes in the system that I describe above. The audit trail in an AI system, not so much. Since whenever, c.f., MYCIN and Eliza, "professionals" have contained about AI. AI shouldn't get a free pass but Luddites shouldn't get a free ride.

A Valentine Easter Egg .......... on 0verlorderly Operations Augmented Virtual Reality Style.

Most of what is in the public realm at present is thanks to journalists and academics making Freedom of Information requests or rifling through the bins of public procurement data, rather than public bodies taking the proactive step of releasing information about how they use AI. ...... Laurie Clarke 12 Feb 2020 at 13:25

One could try the converse obverse reverse with journalists and academics making Freedom of Information requests or rifling through the bins of public procurement data releasing information about how AI is using them and public bodies.

Such might very well be is the much more fruitful endeavour with bounties one never before dreamed possible, and all immediately deliverable.

Do you think that would be Present Systems Operations Problematical? And have them vulnerable and prone to Overloading Lode Trashing and Smashing and Crashing?

      Howdy, Doc,

and maybe there's a time to get to know the way AI thinks how the public bodies are *not* using AI even if AI recommended them to.

Maybe, AC, although that being akin to kicking a can of worms and a Pandoran Box further on down the road is too much of a desperate ineffectual dither to be considered as anything else of note other than there be no better a time to realise and release information and sensitive intelligence to the private and pirating foreign sectors too for allowance of the possibility, and therefore most likely probability of their embrace and engagement/novel quantum communications leap field lead.

And, AC, do you really honestly think you can get to know the way AI thinks how the public bodies are *not* using AI even if AI recommended them to ..... ergo its branding here as a desperate ineffectual dither ‽ .

And of course, one can always rely on an imperious military and wannabe imperial dictatorships [although not necessarily an imperious military and wannabe imperial dictatorships from everywhere and an enclave like the UKGBNI] to want to be ahead of the Great IntelAIgent Game and in Absolute Charge of Command and Control of Future Alien Weaponry ....... White House to weaponize AI and spend money to poach top talent

Furthermore, as we all know, in a capitalist economy and fiat money system, top talent isn't cheap and is surely intelligently designed to be extremely expensive when also mind numbingly effective and stealthily overwhelming. It appears to be the way that particular and peculiar system likes to work in order to generate future profits for lavish spending and saving. Whether that be a blessing or a curse is one of those questions dodgy systems try to avoid asking and answering.

Was this written by an AI chatbot?

It looks superficially like something a human might write, but it makes absolutely no sense at all.

But then, humans quite often write cr@p, so who knows?

Read it again and try and work on understanding the bit about indirect markers.

i.e. the number of miscreants called Jones in Wales compared against the rest of the UK, could lead to some odd effects on the trustworthiness of Taffy in the rest of the UK

Can we stop calling this "Artificial Intelligence"

There is nothing intelligent about it.

It is just statistical analysis on a set of training data, or, the training data is part of the source code, and the "AI" thing is basically a compiler/interpreter that converts it into a load of if statements.

Like anything to do with computers, there are use cases for it, and it can be useful in some situations. Just don't call it "intelligence", and if your programming takes the form of feeding the computer with a load of random data, it may not always give you the correct answer.

Does it mean, katrinab, that word processing is the only processing AI processes during its processes?

Well, it's just a typewriter then, this AI box. The only thing that slips out of it is Where and how the fingers that push the buttons get the orders that order to order the alphabetical order order in this or that order that orders one's pretty fingertips order to push the buttons of your keyboard in order to order OP's mind read the conclusion:cr@p?

In government? The only transparency you will ever see in the UK is the glass door slamming shut behind you as the "open government" civil servants are laughing their heads off at you.
