I hope those laid-off still get income but I don't believe it should fall to Foxconn to have to keep paying salaries when it's not their fault they are shut down. It's for the state to look after the welfare of its citizens.
It's not a Latin word, it's an English word.
The Latin root is "decimat", meaning removal of a tenth. The Roman army disciplinary action of drawing every tenth man by lot and putting them to death (not removal of hands!) was first called decimation in English around 1600. It was also briefly used in English similarly to the word "tithe", also starting in around 1600.
As a side note, most linguists consider the word to have mutated into the more common "utterly destroyed" meaning. Some of us pedants disagree.
So because of Coronavirus factories producing servers are being shut, resulting in a supply shortage, which can only mean if the demand is there for a much larger production, a sellers market - so canny manufacturers (not based in China) can expect an increase in revenues and profits...

Next I wish they’d revert to using bricked to actually mean effectively turned into a brick like a firmware flashing error, etc. rather than just requiring a software reinstall/update a la Patch Tuesday.

Nope, not working. To hell with them. Perhaps some overpaid CEO might get a clue and support local and national businesses but I won't hold my breath.
