is to actually hire UK based expertise to run its own networks and not outsource to companies in other countries. Eg IBM & EDS, IBM (more if I could be bothered to search more). However they are all at it.
If you give people in other countries the keys to your network then you can't really complain if they use them. This is as much a comment about Huawei as Cisco, Ericsson, IBM, ...
If the UK government was serious about security this is what they would push for. It would have the added bonus of creating skilled jobs here.

Only in the marketing guff to convince politicians and sheeple that it had to be done - politicians for the subsidies, sheeple for the subscriptions.
Once you're signed up, it's all about keeping you down to manageable rates and at minimal cost.
Go ahead and delay 5G ; it's not like 5G would have changed anything for the user anyway.
5G is about bringing a new generation of connected devices. I'm all in favour if it helps my devices plan their electricity consumption to happen mostly when power is cheap (sometimes £0.00) overnight.
But it's more than that. It's about industry developing that new generation of devices - and the intellectual property that falls out of that. Of course most of the first generation of 5G will be utter dross, but their patents will live on. That's why Trump is so keen to hold Europe and Asia back. Delay deployment, and you delay the development, leaving US companies more time to grab the lion's share of the IP.
Yeah, I really need an oven that cooks pizza at 3am so it's already well cold at lunch... and last time I checked, a timer works even without 5G - if you have to turn on the washing machine in the night. Still, you need an house when it won't keep you awake while running... and anyway, as they are fixed devices at home, they don't really need 5G - wired Ethernet or WiFi works and are even faster - even if you application doesn't require speed or high bandwidth at all. You cold do it on RS-232 as well.
The real problem is those marvelous "new devices" still fail to materialize - right now the only one are device snooping on people lives - the dream wet of surveillance capitalism - with little or no utility.
I'm not against 5G per se - I'm really against this hype.
