Old world vendors should club together, form new biz called 'Screwed by Cloud'
yeah, great idea!
Horse and Carriage companies should also get together and form a new biz called 'Screwed by Cars"
Hyperscale operators accounted for a whopping third of the $38bn spent on data centre kit and software during the first nine months of 2019 – indicative of the buying power the largest cloud builders wield over legacy tech makers. The rise of the cloud giants in just the past half-decade is staggering, according to a report by …
A bit late now but I was referring to Tom Peters (quality guru from the 80's):

Maybe Intel (the leading supplier of buggy CPU chips for how many decades?) and their lead customers should consider suspending and restarting their operations? How much fun can it be sharing a buggy, leaky, multi-tenanted cloud server with other people's code and data?
The middle management that is. Network was coming. Use your corporate pull to get a backbone going past the (huge) business facility, the topology even favored such a thing.
But nooooo, puny technical staff obviously has no clue. McKinsey advocated layoffs as the Way Forward(tm) to the Nirvana of Wall Street Affluence shortly before the world wide recession caused by those unregulated ok.wallstreeters. Tin ears abounded. The tin ears are now recycled but it is too late the boat has sailed and even Herculean rowing won't easily catch up.
So now there is AWS/Azure and the cloud of dwarfs.
Just try to catch the next wave following cloud after having laid off most anyone with brains... No, Cassandra won't tell you what the next wave is, use your own looking glass.
"Just try to catch the next wave following cloud..."
Oh, and seeing as all the data on the cloud is being profiled in every way possible, there's a very good chance that the goliaths will have correctly predicted the next wave and already have a significant, if not unassailable, hold on that market before you're even aware of it...
The big 7+1 (Facebook/Microsoft/Google/Amazon/Tencent/Baidu/Alibaba+AT&T) account for around 60% of Intel's annual server CPU sales annually.
That's only direct sales and ignores management CPUs in Azure switches, any ARM/nVidia/AMD/non-x86 CPUs developed internally.
The Cloud is inevitable because that's where all the investment is going...
