back to article Pablo Escobar's brother is Medellín in the foldable phone biz, sniffing out new markets

Escobar Inc, the company founded by the brother of late Colombian pharmaceutical executive, Pablo Escobar, has announced it’s getting into the handset business. Welcome to 2019, where that’s a completely normal and factual sentence. The Escobar Fold 1, from Escobar Inc, is unusual for a number of reasons. Yes, there’s the …

late Colombian pharmaceutical executive, Pablo Escobar

    What a wonderful euphemism.

  2. Ol'Peculier

Can't see it working out, they'll only blow it.

It's certainly not to be sniffed at.

Certainly not to be sniffed *on*

That fold will snarf all the dust it can get

I don't think Mr. Escobar's efforts are anything to snort at. I'm sure this handset will crack the market, and rock your low expectations. I wouldn't take a powder on investing, if the opportunity presents itself.

"I'm sure this handset will crack the market"

At that price I wouldn't turn my nose up at it.

Come on people, it was right there.

(And you don't want to know what's in the pocket of mine.)

What's the selection of TLA-disapproved encrypted message/voice apps preinstalled? ...and can i uninstall them?

Can yuppies use it to cut coke lines? It didn't look credit card thin.

Had to wait for my brain to reboot before I could finish the article.

Not sure of that.... Still looks as bent as a 3 Bob note. And that's before they fold it.

    "Pablo Escobar"

Sorry, any company touting that name as a reference earns an immediate boycott reflex from me.

So it's expensive and marks you out as a bit of a twat. At least the phone has that in common with cocaine.

... this firm actually appears on Companies House’ records

Doesn't mean much these days. So did the "makers" of the ZX Spectrum Vega+, Retro Computers Ltd.

  10. Walter Fettich

"On one hand, we're fairly certain it’s impossible to deliver a phone with the specifications promised at such a low price point."

Well.. the Escobars have a proud history of delivering where others failed.

There was phone in the video with the "ladies"???

  12. Hans 1
    Paris Hilton

There is another instructional video on using the phone sporting a pair of naked boobs with tape affixed in case you wanted to look at the device.

    Brilliant story. I laughed

In Columbia, do they - as in Canada - call attempts to fool the market with press-release bull$h!t a "snow job"?

If they're serious & can live with such low likely profit margins, they'll crack the market.

If you buy their argument (much less their product) don't be surprised when it folds.
