The Japanese government has announced it will remove South Korea from its list of trusted export destinations, adding fuel to the fire of the ongoing trade conflict between the two countries. The so-called "white list" – or Group A – consists of 27 countries free to import goods that have both civilian and military …

    Hmm...

In the East, there are arguments over fluorinated polyimides.

In the West, it's about coal and aspirin...

    resistors are futile

he products affected by controls included "fluorinated polyimides, used to make organic light-emitting diode displays; resistors used in semiconductor production; and hydrogen fluoride, used as an etching gas in chipmaking," according to the Nikkei Asian Review.

I thibk they mean "resists" not resistors - as in photo-resists used in lithography of chips ....

    An unfortunate turn of phrase

"US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo previously called on the two countries to bury the hatchet"

Often, one party thinks the best place to bury the hatchet is in the other party's head.

    Probably bad for Japan

All the lessons people learned after the Kobi earthquake cut off supplies of black IC cover plastic are back again - you can't have Japan as sole source for your supplies, however convenient.

I imagine China is making sure that it has domestic suppliers for all the vital ingredients, and will be willing to sell them to anyone that is having a problem with western suppliers. That's the nice thing about the Chinese - they aren't going to let politics get in the way of making money.

      Re: Probably bad for Japan

Yes, as a matter of national security any nation that has the resources (natural, technical and financial) should develop the ability to complete important supply chains. As a Canadian, I'm pointing at my own country. If Trump has highlighted anything it is that no other country can be counted on as a suppler of anything, especially military and high tech equipment.

To be fair, due Corporations being allowed to write and set their own tax deductions and loopholes, I'm not sure Canada has the financial ability to do the above.

No, the Chinese would rather have the money in order to maintain their politics... As in an iron-fisted domination over it's own population.

Enemies telling you to hate your friends

War sucks, war is brutal, war is desperate, war murders everyone, war isn't fair, and there are no good people in a war. Get over WWII. If there's anything to learn, it's to avoid war. With China and N. Korea getting stronger, now would be a good time for Japan and S. Korea to become better friends. This growing resentment is way too easy to exploit.

But if the economy is looking a it bad and you don't ave any immigrants to blame it's a good technique to distract the peasants.

Of course it would never work here

Your opinion is irrelevant. War is up there with death and taxes. War is coming - it's human nature.

Actually war is usefull in distracting the people from problems at home and directing their anger at some specious enemy far away, it's the NORKS, it's the Russians, it's Iran.
