Nothing to worry about
Rolled out 1903 across the estate and it's running sweet as a nut
As the dust settles following the twin launches of Windows 10 and Windows Server, there were happenings in the Microsoft world that you might have missed in the all the kerfuffle. Welcome to Tuesday's Redmond roundup. Windows 10 1903 is here and there's already a mighty big patch for it There was no rest for the wicked (as the …
Personally I'm quite OK with a status quo unless the reasons to change are really compelling (and "it's cool" doesn't cut it for me). If I were to jump on every fad anyone ever came up with I couldn't get any work done.
Also, why on Earth anyone would feel compelled to pollute their MacOS with anything more than MS Office is beyond me. Trying to join two substantially different approaches to risk is madness.
I tried 1903 via the update assistant and twice it failed with no reason given.
A quick search in my logs I found a 'delightful' XML file with oodles of lines of misdirection to finally find the bork.
Found it was USB external storage the first time and then a old copy of a uninstalled battleye client .exe I had in a spare drive doing nothing. So it rather unhelpfully scans your entire system regardless.
Came across a spelling error in the logs. "waitting" is very common. Who writes this stuff!?
Got to love Microsoft not putting a user friendly frontend to failures. Too much bother was it?
How the devil will non-experts cope!
Nu-Edge for older versions of Windows, however, remains missing in action for the time being, although a Windows 7 build, leaked from the increasingly sieve-like Edge team, has been doing the rounds.
What, no Linux build? I thought MS were all touchy-feely in love with Linux now? Don't wanna share the pain privilege with us as well?
If you look at the feedback channels for chromium Edge then the most complained about thing is the UI. Something I fear MS are never going to change as they could have altered the UI for Windows to match fluent design. There is very little in the way of compelling reasons to use the new Edge over another more mature chromium browser like Vivaldi or Brave. Unless MS can do something different fairly quickly then I fear this is just a pointless waste of time.
