back to article Microsoft realises more testing wouldn't hurt and plonks Windows 10 May update into Preview ring

The Windows 10 May 2019 Update has been plopped into the Release Preview ring as promised. This is in marked contrast to the previous release, which skipped Preview entirely. That didn't go so well, so this time Microsoft is exercising extreme caution. The build can be picked up via Windows Update, although you'll need opt …

    More testing?

    Well, I suppose anything is better than nothing.

    Still a problem

    Given Slurp has not figured out how to use the results from their 'volunteer' alpha and beta testers I am not convinced more time in the testers' hands will mean much. What Slurp needs to do is to reconstitute their internal QA department and them loose on the code before releasing even preliminary versions to the world. Until then, I view this as mostly a PR stunt not a real solution to the fundamental problem.

    Preview ring != testing

    Something like the preview ring is a great idea to supplement a real testing effort. It is not, however, anything like a real testing effort.

    WSUS

    I checked our WSUS options this morning, "Windows 10 1903 and later" is now listed as a product category.

    I think I broke it

    I think I found a severe, and very rare, bug. Several of my apps wouldn't start any more, error 0xc0000135. Tried a bunch of troubleshooting, then rolled back. Some apps still broken after rollback. Restored from backup to 1809.
