own the pwned
I wonder how many of the Microsoft CVEs were identified at Pwn2Own (CanSecWest 2019). A couple of fellows earned $375,000 there....
A pair of actively-targeted Windows flaws highlight this month's edition of Redmond's Patch Tuesday, the monthly moment when admins sigh and determine what to fix.. For Microsoft, the monthly flaw folder fixes for a total of 74 CVE-listed security bugs in Windows and Office. Of those, 33 are flaws which, if exploited, would …
last I checked, the Adobe reader kept asking me to REGISTER IT with an E-MAIL ADDRESS...
So, with at least 2 decent alternative PDF readers out there (that I know of), neither of which VIOLATE YOUR PRIVACY, _WHY_ would anyone want to install Adobe's PDF reader? That especially when taking into consideration Adobe's piss-poor security track record.
last I checked, the Adobe reader kept asking me to REGISTER IT with an E-MAIL ADDRESS...
Last I checked, it didn't. Can't remember it ever having done so.
"So, with at least 2 decent alternative PDF readers out there"
So why won't you name them?
Do they work with all forms, do they work with and print unicode and other non-ascii characters without any problems?
Simple bob. I am in early stage of dementia or alzymers (can't remember which - no pun intended) and while I can remember how to use Acrobat fairly well, I have difficulty remembering how to use new equivalent software.
Makes Windows XP very desirable, Windows 7 only slightly less but Win$hit 10 is a definite no brainer. Also rules out Linux flavours as well unfortunately.
Hope that answers your question and wish you will soon get a keyboard that has a non faulty caps lock before I forget you have one in the first place.
I was running a marathon disk surface check that was due to finish on Saturday. Got up this morning, looked at my PC... apparently stopped with lights out.
Booted, logged in, saw a cheerful message "Your computer was rebooted to finish installing updates".
User-friendly or what?
Sorry for late advice, but, either disconnect from network except when authorized by you, or, tell Windows that the connection use is metered, i.e. charged by use. Mine actually is, it's mobile wi-fi. That way, Windows won't go online tu get updates whenever it wants. I don't know another good way to do that.
I found my iPhone with iOS 12 didn't need my permission to join a "Wi-Fi Extra" hotspot, I forget why, so now when I got out I turn off the phone's wi-fi, but let it auto-join my home network. My previous mode was, wi-fi left on, but join only when I choose to join. But in fact it can't do that so...
Don't want to spread FUD and this just happened, but be careful if you are installing the latest batch of updates on Windows Server 2012 R2.
I installed the updates and rebooted the server and now I cannot RDP to it. Server is up and running, but the RDP app gives up at ''estimating connection quality' without ANY error message, both from a Windows 10 and a Windows 7 machine. Currently trying to solve this issue!
if you're using sophos, avira or avast, there are known issues with windows 7, 8.1, 2008, 2012 and 2012r2 and this months updates.
i had the same problem, the firewall service failed to start, so no rdp.
if you're using sophos (or even if not) this may help

essentially, you need to remove the update, you may have to boot into safe mode. you're probably going to need console access as well
