back to article TalkTalk, UK2 sitting in a tree, not T-A-L-K-I-N-G: Hosting biz cut off after ISP broadband upgrade

ISP TalkTalk is no longer on speaking terms with Brit hosting provider UK2.net – as far as networking their customers over the internet is concerned. A Register reader noted that things went south in the early hours of this morning, and a glance at UK2.net’s status page confirms subscribers of TalkTalk – the ISP that wears the …

This is what I like to hear - the tech support is obviously taking the problem very seriously and everybody is fully engaged on finding a solution.

I appreciate the sentiment but I think a couple of <sarcasm> tags would help those El Reg readers for whom English is not necessarily their native tongue.

WRT "some routine updates in some of our exchanges from 1AM to 6AM tomorrow morning, to make improvements to your service." reminds me of an entry in the Devil's DP Dictionary (Stan Kelly-Bootle?) that defined a one-line patch as a change so small it didn't require testing before it was allowed to crash the main system. The problem was cured by a one-line patch. The dictionary reference also linked to "recursion".

(the exact reference may be a bit different as many brain cells have passed away since I last read it.)

They used to offer a lovely number for dialup with just uk2/uk2 as the login details, local rates.

Whatever happened to them? That was a great backup when the "new" DSL went down or just when you were "roaming" in a hotel or something pre-wireless.

And game servers, they used to run a ton of game servers.

Since DSL came along, haven't heard hide nor hair of them.

They went a bit crap. I used to have a few domains with them, but after a bunch of unnecessary "upgrades" to their control panel made everything difficult to find, rising prices and an increasing likelihood that t hey'd just straight up ignore technical support problems, I decided to shift somewhere else.

At which point I discovered that they'd made moving domains away from them immensely difficult, as in "nearly tempted to let the things expire and risk re-buying them from the scalpers" difficult.

They were bought out by some company that saw a cash flow with an inbuilt customer base and wanted the money for itself.

      Joke's on them I guess.

That's not why, suffice to say joke isn't on them.

Spring movement of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons

Now if they were serious about fixing it the music would be Puccini's "Nessun Dorma".

    It's that TalkTalk again !

They're fond of aqcuiring wooden spoons every year, and are too thick skinned to care anymore. This snafu doesnt help. The script monkeys in customer services are worse than a chocolate teapot. Keep your BP tablets handy when attempting to talk to them, else you are sure to burst a vein in your brain.

Also, punters be aware that the "free Essential SIM as far as you are a customer" is being withdrawn from August with a £5 per month 200 minutes and 250 mb of 3g data, if you want to continue. Else go to O2 !

As usual, fake promises in management speak. Wankers all.

We are currently awaiting updates from TalkTalk regarding issues on their network

Will this mean a phone call from a pleasant gentleman in <offshore call centre> telling UK2 that they will need a new router which will be despatched to them once they send some money via <money transfer agent>?

    FAIL

Are they still shipping a copy of every web site you visit to China for "security"

    Stalk Stalk Still?

Yet another of the big 5 UK ISP's no one in their right mind would touch with the end of a long sh**ty stick.

The others being Vermin, BT and Murdoch's Minions.

    TT still have customers???

I am assuming that by this stage, they are all mouth breathers, as anyone with as much as a single active brain cell jumped ship a long time ago - probably ti an equally shite ISP like Plusnet.

      Re: Disbelief

Relatives of mine have TT, and hardly seem to go a few months without having some problem with either TT or BTO. Some episodes have gone on for weeks. They live in a cabled area and Virgin didn't work out at that much more over the year, but it's cheaper innit

ONE hosting provider?!?! You were lucky!

When I were a lad TalkTalk wouldn't speak to any hosting providers, for weeks on end, and their customer service wouldn't speak to me either. High speed fibre could only be found behind t'tractor when it span it's wheels running over soggy cow pats.

Talk talk has to be one of the best ISP in the UK. I mean they are talked about on el reg at least once a month

This just in. Comacast, ATT, BT and TT will merge. The new company will bring ludicrous speeds to the internet . Parents will no longer have to worry about kids looking at porn or spending to much time on the net. Gone are line rental fees. But will have to pay £2.95 per month for line conditioning. £3.50 copper rental fee. £3.50 maintenance fee. £2.95 document preparation fee. £2.95 document storage fees. £10 month modem fee. £6 to turn on wi fi. £30 to use your own modem.

You can have this for the low low price of £45 a month plus fees or wait we for got to ad VAT that's £55 a month plus fee. OF course if you want detailed billing that shows all the fees that will be another £ 2.95 a month.

Re: CRAP CRAP. Why is ANYONE still with them?

      Simple.

The same reason people don't change any other service they use.

      Inertia.

      and TT know this.

It's only when people start walking (and can't be stopped with some "One off special offer" BS) that companies will start (just start) to actually do something about improving themselves.
