Pardon my ignorance (Its been a while since I did my Simpana Installation / Administration course), but isn't the Media Agent essentially the name for CommVaults Data Mover?
This looks like multiple MA's pointing at a shared clustered Repository (probably running a local index cache per node, or shared between nodes) with dedupe enabled.
Happy to be proved wrong, as the explanation against them "being complex" is simply them listing CV's feature set.

You are right- Media Agents have historically been the data movers in Commvault. In case of the HyperScale, there aren't specific nodes dedicated to running this function. Every node plays the role of a Media Agent. The benefit is that each node brings compute and storage capacity to the cluster unlike a scale up approach where you keep adding capacity behind a given media agent, and then the media agent could potentially run out of processing power at some point.
