    Sabre - Nation State attack?

The Register reported on an attack against Sabre back in 2015. It appears that the Register were forced to update the article including a caveat that there was no breach at Sabre. In 2015 in the US the OPM, Ashley Madison and Anthem had been hacked. These attacks were suspected of being conducted by Chinese Nation state threat actors. It was suspected that these were targets for Chinese Intelligence agencies, they would use the information gleaned to blackmail government officials. In 2015 Sabre denied they had been attacked but they have now revealed that they have identified a historic breach from August 2016. Given what was going on in 2015 in the US I'm sure that the Chinese intelligence services would be very interested in US flight/hotel booking data. I suspect what Sabre are releasing now is the fallout from an attack which happened in 2015.
