    National Security

The books of history seem fairly clear on what happened the last time America and Japan "negotiated" about national security matters. And nuclear reactors were involved too.

Yeah... but that was Hiroshima... not Fukushima...

The Japanese should just do what proper capitalist countries do. Declare Toshiba "Too big to fail" and give them a huge wodge of taxpayers' money.

Oh, now I've made myself sad.

That's probably what they'll do. The Japanese aren't fond of a: unemployment and b: foreign people running their things.

You can paraphrase "the only thing worse than useless employment is unemployment" ( the old the only thing worse than organised crime is disorganised crime)

        "A: unemployment "

Although they have a lot of it even with the old "cradle to grave" employment system well & truly gone and mostly replaced with a gig economy from hell.

"B: foreign people running their things."

Only the appearance of that. The only carmaker not under foreign control now is Toyota.

Japan is worth watching from a number of points of view, not least of which is that their population demographics now are where ours will be in another 15-20 years if certain elements have their way and the UK housing situation is likely to follow the same lost (two) decade pattern too.
